Discovery Channel

This weekend we have been staying at Michael’s aunt & uncle’s Tuscan villa-style home in Austin, Texas. It’s been a great trip – yesterday we lounged by the pool all day and went out for seafood for dinner. Today I am sleepily (and sunburned-edly) lounging in the guest room that overlooks some gorgeous hills. Over the last couple of days, I have discovered a few things: -Having drinks with your husband in a hotel lobby while pretending you don’t know each other and shamelessly flirting is REALLY REALLY FUN. -I am never more conscious of my boobs than when I am wearing a swimsuit. Except maybe when Michael’s 2 year-old cousin barges in on me in my bra. OR sticks his hand [...]

Hold Me Closer, Crazy Aussie.

Hold Me Closer, Crazy Aussie.

Instead of a gratuitous picture of myself only, I thought I would post a picture of me and the girl in my life, our miniature Australian Shepherd, Leia. It’s a rare picture of this dog that doesn’t have at least one hand around her head, trying to keep her still for the 2 seconds it takes to get the picture. Actually, most pictures of her have to be deleted, due to the fact that you can’t tell if it’s a dog or a giant swirl of vanilla ice cream with chocolate and caramel syrup. In this picture, if you look closely, you will see that she is mentally calculating exactly how difficult it would be to shake herself free from my [...]

Expulsion.

Expulsion.

For the past few months, some friends and I have been getting together for something we call “Craft Sunday.” I’m not really sure how it originated (I think my friend Nicole came up with it), but it has been a blast. Mostly it’s an excuse for us to get together and let the creative (and grape) juices flow. To quote one of the girls last night: “I’m gonna drink this wine, then I’m gonna try to sew.”  It’s a ton of fun. I would encourage any group of girlfriends to get together once a month and work on craft projects. I guarantee that you WILL have fun. So far, I have made: a camera case out of felt, a painting [...]

Oh, the humidity.

It’s that time again in Texas – the time of the year where you question everything you believe and seriously consider moving to the North Pole. It’s so hot right now, I find it difficult to concentrate on anything but the heat. “What do you want for dinner?” “Chicken. It’s so hot outside.” “How is work?” “Fine but it’s SO HOT OUTSIDE.” “How’s your family?” “It’s so hot outside and my brain has melted.” You could fry an egg on the sidewalk. Or on my face. You could boil an egg in the humidity. I find myself going to the fridge and just hanging out with my head in the freezer for awhile. And it’s still May. When Michael and [...]

The Answer To All Your Problems.

The Answer To All Your Problems.

#1: I would just like to say, I really do have eyeballs, contrary to what this picture would have you believe. #2: WHY DIDN’T SOMEONE TELL ME ABOUT THIS BOOK SOONER?! Srsly. Think of all the money I could have saved on therapy! (Kidding Mom! If and when you find this blog, JUST KNOW I LOVE YOU.) #3: It’s GPOYW (Gratuitous Picture of Yourself Wednesday), and since I’m currently not wearing makeup (or pants), here’s a picture from a couple weeks ago. Happy Hump Day! NOW GET BACK TO WORK.

Spanx me.

I don’t know if it’s only in Texas, or the South in general – chalk it up to our good cookin’, and therefore, our “bootylicious” figures – but it seems to me that a lot of people must NOT own full length mirrors. If they do, they don’t use them before they leave the house. And even if they happen walk by them for a second, they most certainly DO NOT turn around to check out what their backside looks like. Yesterday, I had the following conversation with my mother: Me: “SOME PEOPLE need to buy full length mirrors.” My mom: “SOME PEOPLE have no inhibitions!” Listen. I’m not judging the bigger girl. I’m 5’10″ and have a few curves [...]

A typical morning in our house.

In Love & Music.

Recently, our household went from 1 Mac & 2 PCs to 3 Macs, 2 iPhones, & one PC (soon to be ZERO). I got my first Mac last year in October when my work computer, an HP, finally died (after a long and ghoulish life), resurrected, and became reincarnated by Satan himself. My boss bought us all white MacBooks, and I instantly fell in love with mine – and with Mac OS. I sold my Dell laptop to my brother and vowed to never again buy another PC. Then my husband bought me a MacBook Pro, fell in love with Mac OS too (as everyone does), and bought himself a black MacBook (he’ll be selling his Dell shortly).  All of [...]

Bar-bee-kew.

Last weekend I had the honor and privilege of taking a trip to the Texas Hill Country. For those of you who have never been to Texas (and may I say, I feel sorry for you, I REALLY DO), the Hill Country is our crown jewel. Seriously gorgeous. When I get all my files transferred to my new MBP I will upload some pictures so you can see for yourself. Because nothing delights me more than a good round of “I TOLD YOU SO.” It was a good weekend for me. I’ve been going through a recurring bout with depression (only a mild one, folks, no wrist-cutting going on here) due to a few factors that are currently out of my control. My wonderful and supportive [...]
