I love makeup. My favorite components of my daily makeup regime include, oh, all of them. Foundation holds a special place in my heart, but mascara is up there too. And where would I be without bronzer? That’s right, pasty white and deathly. Don’t even get me started on the wonders that a little brow powder and pencil can do. I’ve mentioned before that one of my clients is a makeup boutique, and that each time I visit, I’m like a kid in a candy store. You say this powder will make me look airbrushed? Absolutely I want defined cheekbones! Makeup is smoke and mirrors, but that’s part of the fun. It’s about accentuating your good features and boosting your [...]

The LfT Review: Benefit’s “They’re Real!” mascara
I don’t think it’s a huge secret that I am a cheapskate. Which works well with my life right now. I buy store-brand food and medicine. I buy hair products from the Generic Value Products line at Sally. I only buy clothes that are on sale. Am I making my point? One of my favorite things in the whole wide world is makeup. Typically, I wear drugstore makeup; wearing only bareMinerals on my face is my one exception. I have a couple of other “nicer” makeup pieces, but they are few and far between. You are going to see a lot of CoverGirl, Maybelline, and L’Oréal in my makeup case. It’s not that I don’t enjoy the fancier brands, I just [...]
Let’s Talk: Make-up.
I love makeup. One of the saddest things about relocating last summer was that I lived right down the road from an Ulta, and now live miles from one. I probably definitely save a lot of money this way, but I do miss my easy access to bareMinerals. My makeup is a mix-and-match of drugstore and mid-priced. I don’t wear anything too expensive, not only because I can’t afford it right now, but also because I tend to doubt that there’s enough of a difference to justify paying $40 for a lipstick. I mean, will it make me look exactly like January Jones? Then it’s not worth the extra $35. Everyday, I wear: moisturizer, bareMinerals Original Foundation (applied with an all-over [...]
Four eyes.
Dress: Ross; Sweater: T.J.Maxx; Lipstick: NARS Jungle Red; Glasses: Michael Kors; Hair: Hot rollers I’ve been so busy this week. My inbox is threatening to take over my life, and every shoe I’ve worn since Monday is parked squarely in the middle of my dining room (from when I get home in the evening and am too tired to even take one more step to my closet). Pancho definitely gave me the cold shoulder last night, as if to say Where have you been all week? I’m still loving my new job, but I am looking forward to a little down time this weekend. This is a fast paced business, and every day when I look up and see 6pm on [...]
The Moment You've All Been Waiting For…
(… Or maybe not.) Revealed! My favorite pictures from our photoshoot with Cio. In no particular order. First up, my hot husband (OK, so maybe they are in a particular order)… I know, right?! Back off ladies, he’s all mine. Next up, us together… In our spare time, we model for Levi’s. Now, just me… We started out with natural make-up, then I transformed into what Michael called “Red Light Lauren”… There are many more, and they are all so good, it was hard to choose! She also took some great pictures of my (and my mom/sister’s) dogs, but I’m saving those for another post. Moral of the story: If you live in the greater Houston area, contact Cio for [...]
Worth a Thousand
My weekend in pictures. Scroll really fast and it’s like a movie! But not really. I got off work early on Friday, which is always a nice treat after putting in a long week. I called my sister-in-law and we decided to do a little shopping together. While I was getting ready to go, I found a 3-pack of banana clips in my drawer (I had bought them weekend before last when I was with my little sister - I guess you can take the girl out of the 90′s, but you can’t take the 90′s out of the girl). Here is the finished result: I had scrunched my (almost) dry hair with a little John Frieda Dream Curls Curl Perfecting [...]
