eBloggery

eBloggery

Maybe I would use this photo for my eBloggery profile picture. I like to take car photos, wear borderline ghetto hoop earrings, and I have transition lenses. Be my friend? Why is finding friends so difficult as an adult? I’m not talking about acquaintances you call friends. Those are easy to discover. Look around your place of work, church (if you have one), and community gatherings. I’m sure you’ll see lots of people you know on a first name basis, but that doesn’t mean you would call them last-minute because you’re dying to see a chick flick on a Sunday afternoon and you don’t want to go alone. I’ve been reading MWF Seeking BFF, and while I’m only a couple of [...]

Glamazon weekends are good for the soul.

Glamazon weekends are good for the soul.

{l-r: Lyndsey, me, Chelsea, Molly, Kelly} I may have told a tiny white lie in my 5 Things on a Friday post. I didn’t stay home and clean out my closet. I did that the previous weekend. Instead, I traveled to Chelsea’s house to pull off a 4-part surprise. Everything went SO well and she was completely surprised. All 4 times. Chelsea’s been having a rough time lately. I don’t like that. She’s my girl. One night a couple of weeks ago, I couldn’t sleep, so I texted Molly and said “We have to do something. Let’s visit Chelsea, but make it a surprise.” Molly, being the amazing friend she is, wholeheartedly agreed. We got Chelsea’s husband, sister, and mom [...]

Lucy

Lucy

{Lucy and Chelsea’s son, Jansen} One of my dearest friends, Chelsea, experienced the death of a close friend last week. Lucy, who I had met a couple of times, passed away after a very brief battle with cancer. You can read the whole story here. Last Thursday night, I looked down at my phone and saw a text that said simply, “Lucy died today.” Immediately, it felt like my stomach dropped out of my body. Just three weeks earlier, Lucy had been diagnosed with cancer. We had all been praying that she would make a full recovery. She was young, in shape, and very healthy. Everyone was hopeful. Except, for reasons we will probably never be able to understand, she [...]

This post is sort of random, but mostly about dogs.

This post is sort of random, but mostly about dogs.

My friend, Sarah, is pretty awesome. Besides having a giant adorable dog (see English bulldog in above photo), she loves my blog so much, she created a Facebook page for it. She’s vying for the position of PR representative for LfT, and since she’s the only contender as of yet (and probably ever), I think she’s hired. I hope she’s okay if her paychecks come in the form of pretzels and Cheez-its. You see, Sarah and I also work together, and I’ve been known to pass snacks her way from time to time (like, every day). I guess you could say she owes me. The other night, Michael was gone, so Sarah took the opportunity to come over with a [...]

A Chicago-Style Wedding

A Chicago-Style Wedding

{bachelorette party cupcakes} I know I don’t need to keep talking about how crazy this summer has been. But seriously. IT HAS BEEN CRAZY. If this summer were a family member, it would be the aunt who has lipstick on her teeth and a bird in her hat that may or may not be faux. She has runs in her patterned hose and falls asleep each night beneath her blanket of cats. HAVE I MADE MY POINT YET? Good. Now where was I? Ah yes. Crazy summer. Besides making the decision to go back to school, studying for and taking the GRE, and obtaining my PhD in moving, I also was a bridesmaid in two weddings. All while working a [...]

O Canada!

O Canada!

So by now you might have figured out that I’m out of the country. Well, kind of. I’ve been in Canada (specifically Alberta) since Monday, helping my friend get ready for her wedding on Saturday. And by “helping my friend” I mean letting her buy me Tim Hortons coffee and Timbits and in return filling out her seating chart. We have a great friendship going on. This week is flying by and I’m a little sad about how close we are to Saturday. It will be wonderful to see Corlene marry the man of her dreams, but it will also be sad because then she will leave me and fly to Hawaii! She didn’t even have the decency to invite [...]

Bridesmania!

Bridesmania!

{l-r: Julie & Corlene at my wedding} When I got married 3.5 years ago, I had six bridesmaids. Two of those precious girls have decided to get married this summer, about a month apart. Guess who’s going to be jet-setting and brides-maiding all over the place come June and July? LfT, that’s who. Wedding number 1 is my BFF Julie. Julie and I met right before our 13th birthdays, when I needed a friend the most. We were inseparable until college came around and she left me to pursue her dreams in Chicago, but it’s okay, I’m not bitter (anymore). Julie is one of the sweetest people you will ever meet and loyal until the end; I’m so blessed that [...]

It’s not easy being a Glamazon.

It’s not easy being a Glamazon.

Perhaps you remember my blog friend Chelsea. I’ve only mentioned her 9,675 times here on LfT. She is awesome for a lot of reasons, and one of those reasons is that her parents have an amazing home in Galveston, and they let us have a girls weekend there every year. Another reason is because she lets me send her hypochondriacal emails regarding my many illness, real and imagined, but I digress. Chelsea is tall (5’12″ – yes, that’s a real height), and has two tall friends, Lyndsey and Kelly. Last year, they were kind enough to invite me along on their girls weekend. (Click here to read last year’s post.) Since I am pretty tall myself (5’10″), our group has [...]

Don't test these besties.

Don't test these besties.

Remember the pictures I posted on Friday? Well, Chelsea asked if I had “butter in my brown sugar.” At first, I thought it was some sort of code, then I realized she was referring to this picture: And no, that’s not butter. They’re marshmallows. I read in Real Simple that if you put a few marshmallows in your brown sugar, it’ll stay soft & you won’t end up with the inevitable brick of brown sugar we who bake have become accustomed to. So grab some marshmallows & toss them, with your brown sugar, into an airtight canister. And put away your jack hammer. Speaking of things that need to be addressed: on Thursday night, I made blueberry muffins and chocolate [...]

Close but no guitar.

Close but no guitar.

Well, my lovelies, the Process of Selling This House (and yes, this is a process which requires the capitalization of the first letter of each word, it’s that serious & life-absorbing) is coming to an end. The appraisal was on Tuesday & we got word back Wednesday, & while everything is fine & we are set to close on schedule, things didn’t go exactly the way I had hoped. Add that on top of my already fragile state, since the Process of Selling This House & the Process of Moving To The Middle Of Nowhere aren’t enough, and Lauren pretty much has LOST IT about 4 times since then. I’ll be fine, I just need to mourn a little longer… [...]
