>> Am I too old for lime green nail polish? My husband and parents are not fans (my mom and dad were visiting when I painted them), but my 18-year-old sister said it was cute, so I feel like that gives me some street cred. It was definitely fun! It’s just that I’m about to be 27 (March 5th! Less than 2 weeks away!). I’m not sure what the protocol is for nail colors on women in their LATE TWENTIES (so dramatic). At what point do we have to stick with boring colors like “Dusty Rose”? What’s the cutoff age for glitter polish? I NEED TO KNOW.
>> If this photo doesn’t make you snort-laugh, I don’t want to be friends with you. I seriously could not stop laughing. Two of my favorite things combined:

>> I made a face with the iMadeFace app. This app should be renamed “the hot cartoon version of what I wish I looked like.” Because COME ON GUYS. WE LOOK NOTHING LIKE THIS.

>> How is it already almost time for midterms?! This semester is flying by. I’m learning a ton and have actually gotten to the point where I’m practicing counseling skills in class/lab. It’s exciting and makes me realize that I will be counseling before I know it. In the midst of all the coffee and reading and writing and class, it’s important to remember that this is such a brief time that will be over very soon. I’m enjoying spending time with my classmates, getting to know the faculty, and learning so much it feels like my brain might explode. Love it.
>> My SIL gave birth to this little angel right before Christmas. Her name is Eleanor and she is my very first niece. I love her to pieces already and can’t wait for tea parties and dress-up and all the other fun stuff that comes with having a little girl in your life. I think she likes me too — I mean, she picked out her outfit all by herself. Girlfriend knows what’s up.

Molly says:
Whatever. You’re a thousand times prettier than that cartoon.
Lauren from Texas says:
You are too kind to me.
lauryn says:
Congrats on your new niece! She is precious, and I just love her name. Our good friends just named their baby girl June. I love these classic names coming back!
Lauren from Texas says:
Thank you Lauryn! I feel the same way! June is a beautiful name. There are so many classics I just love…but am especially partial to Eleanor now. ;-)
Meg O. says:
I agree – way prettier than your cartoon self. And your niece is just precious! And I think it’s okay to have lime green nails. It’s all about how young you FEEL, right?
Lauren from Texas says:
Aw thank you Meg! And in that case…what kind of nails does an 80 year old woman have? Just kidding ;-) I’ll keep my crazy colors for a few more years at least!
Rhona says:
You’re never too old for bright or glittery nail polish in my book!
Lauren from Texas says:
I like the way you think, Rhona!
Tabaitha says:
Love the lime green nail polish! I don’t think there is an age limit, atleast not one I will follow. Rule breaker! Bring on the bright colors and glitter!
Lauren from Texas says:
Tabaitha, I like the way this sounds! <3
Amanda says:
I am 33 and I still wear glitter polish :-) Congrats on becoming a new Aunt. I have 2 nieces and they are so much fun!
Lauren from Texas says:
Glitter polish is like happiness in a tiny little bottle. ;-) Thanks for the congrats…I have 5 nephews already and boys are so much fun but I think I am really going to love being an aunt to a niece!
Caitlin says:
There’s definitely no limit on fun nail polish! I’ll be 28 in June and have a basket full of crazy colors and I have no intention of ditching them for boring colors anytime soon. I currently have seafoam green nails with jade green accent nails!
Lauren from Texas says:
Caitlin, that sounds super pretty. Keep rockin’ those crazy colors!
Linda says:
I’m 29 and am wearing hot pink nail polish with a bright yellow accent nail. That has heart confetti on it. HA!
Lauren from Texas says:
Linda, that sounds SO CUTE! I think I need some heart confetti polish in my life, stat.
Mary Craig says:
Outside of behaviors and attitudes that I choose to leave behind because I am growing in Jesus (which has something to do with the progression of years), I try to not leave something behind because I think the world thinks I’m too old for that now. Some things may get relegated to your private life because your professional rep matters, but rarely does anything have to end completely. So, rock it for as long as you want to!
Lauren from Texas says:
I love that. When/if I’m a counselor/professor, I may have to relegate the crazy colors to my toes, but they’ll always be around. Life would be so boring in only shades of non-glittery Dusty Rose. ;-)
Rachel says:
Keep rockin’ the crazy nail polish! I wore the Essie magnetic snake-skin-looking polish to work today and all of my students were obsessed with it. Although maybe they should have been paying more attention to their work than to my nails… :)
Lauren from Texas says:
I really want to try that polish! It looks fun :)
Sarah says:
Love love love the polish. I have all these neon OPI bottles that I was too scared to wear and suddenly, last year, I cracked them open and life has been amazing ever since. Definite connection.
(Is your hair brown in this pic???)
Lauren from Texas says:
It’s probably a little bit the filter and mostly that the lightest part of my hair is pulled back. I’ve gotten more lowlights than highlights as of late, so I kind of have an ombre thing going on. ;)
Jamie says:
A friend of mine who’s nearing that 40 mile marker in her life has HUNDREDS of nail polishes. Every color you can imagine, and not only does she wear all of the bright, crazy, glittery colors, she does amazing nail pictures/designs. Miniature masterpieces. I say do what you want. Life is too short to worry about such things. :)
Lauren from Texas says:
Your friend sounds AWESOME!
Jill says:
Little Eleanor has some serious fashion sense! GET IT GIRL! ;) As for the nail polish – I think it depends on your line of work. I don’t think I could get away with funky nail colors, though I know lots of other people who can do so…everyone is different ;) Also?! LOVE Sweet Brown and Adam Levine. Girlfriend better find some time or she won’t be getting no cold pop in the future!
Lauren from Texas says:
Ain’t nobody got time for that! ;-)
Carrie says:
hi lauren,
i’m a fellow counseling nerd (mft) and christian. I thought your line about having kids on your about me page was hilarious, i can totally relate. Nice meeting you on the internet and looking forward to following:)
Lauren from Texas says:
Hi Carrie! Thanks for following along. :-) Are you practicing as an MFT now?
Kaci Johanna says:
Age ain’t nothin’ but a number – you rock that lime green polish!
Also, what a beautiful little girl!
Lauren from Texas says:
Thanks Kaci, & I agree!
Sophie Broussard says:
Oh yea…first time I saw that I was in a public place and laughed out loud…loud.
