5 Things on a Friday {round 38}

// sneak peek of my home office/guest room (see: #5)

1 >> We’re fine. When Isaac hit Lafayette, it was more like a tropical storm. We never even lost power. We spent the day watching Season 6 of Dexter, drinking wine, eating Oreos, and hanging out. It was nice because Michael and I rarely have time to just hang out with no agenda or schedule. I’m hoping and praying that everyone else who was in Isaac’s path fared okay, too. Thanks for the tweets/comments checking in on us!

2 >> One week from today, my friends Molly and Chelsea will be in Lafayette for a visit. DO YOU KNOW HOW EXCITED I AM? You can’t imagine, because I can hardly imagine it myself. On a scale of 1-10 of excitement, I’m an ELEVENTY BILLION. We’re going to spend the weekend discussing T&F (thoughts and feelings) and visiting all my new favorite Cajun haunts. Drive-thru daiquiri shacks (can you believe I actually haven’t had one yet? And I’ve been here 3 months?) and shrimp po’ boys, here we come!

3 >> I have something like 2,000+ photos on my iPhone. Who even does that? I’ve had it tell me that I have to delete some to be able to take any more. On several occasions. So I delete a few and then it happens again. I need to put them all on my computer, but I also need to delete a lot of them. Does anyone have a system or trick for this? Because basically, I haven’t done a photo wipe since I got this iPhone. A YEAR AGO.

4 >> I’ve always wanted to be the brave girl who can wear red lipstick with anything from a fancy dress to a tee-shirt and jeans. But it’s scary, am I right? The whole time, I’m worried that it’s smeared or it’s on my teeth or I’m not pulling off the look and I just look like a ridiculous hooker. But the other night, Michael and I went on a date, and I rocked the red. And loved it. I think it’ll be my new thing for fall/winter. Maybe.

5 >> Last weekend, I finally finished organizing/decorating my guest room/office. It’s very pink + vintage. I can’t wait to show you guys…but before I do that, I need to delete some photos off my iPhone. Or, you know, get a real camera. In fact, I’d love to get a camera and do a whole home tour, since I’ve worked hard to decorate my home this summer on basically zero budget (thrift stores and spray paint are my BFFs). I asked this on Twitter the other day, but does anyone have suggestions for a beginner DSLR? I’m thinking a Canon Rebel, but if someone else has an OMG ABSOLUTE FAVORITE MUST HAVE, let me know!

Happy weekend!

You should always wear red lipstick! You look so gorgeous. It could be your “thing” like Gwen Stefani. :-)

BTW – I have all my outfits picked out for Sage Magazine. I’m going to do some photography sessions and will have everything to you by Sept 15th!!!

  2. Megan says:

Gosh you just made me want to go home! I could sure use a poboy from Old Tyme Grocery!

  3. CookinwVictoria says:

The Canon Rebel T3i is what my brother suggests. Their prices might be decreasing in October, so keep an eye out on Amazon for them.

  4. Allison (With Faith and Grace) says:

Do you have a Mac? If so, you can access all your iPhone photos via iPhoto, download them and them delete them all in one fell swoop.

As for a camera, we mostly use our iPhone! It’s so good. But we have a Nikon D60 which I like a lot. I’m sure there are newer, better ones, since this camera is at least 3+ years old.

  5. Drea says:

“Ridiculous hooker.” Yes, that accurately described how I feel when I wear red lipstick. I also want to be able to wear it with just jeans. you look great!! But I understand your hardship.

  6. Dina says:

I think I may have just “stumbled” upon one of my newest, most favorite blogs! You had me at the Cardbox thing.

  7. Jill says:

The Canon Rebel is a fantastic DSLR to start out with. In fact, it was my first. I later moved up slightly but in all honesty, I didn’t need to. And now I hardly ever use it (I could not tell you why other than I’m lazy).

  8. Cara says:

Rock the red lipstick. Bright lips are one of my favorite things. So what if people think it looks dumb – they aren’t wearing it. not their problem. And besides – it looks fab!!!

  9. trista says:

So glad that Isaac was nice to y’all. And I don’t have a DSLR but my Canon PowerShot is a great camera and it’s given me an opportunity to learn manual settings and all that ~fancy stuff w/out forking over the $$ for the fancier camera. :)

  10. Julia says:

The canon rebel is amazing. We bought a refurbed one from canon and have been so so pleased! I love red lipstick. One of my tricks is to wear almost no make up and red lipstick because it saves time and looks great! Wear it proudly!

  11. Jill says:

I also meant to tell you that your red lipstick looks GREAT! I always feel really nervous to wear it (have only done so a handful of times), but anytime I do…people compliment me! I bet when you were on your date people were thinkin…who’s the smokin’ blonde?! :)

  12. Miemo says:

I know exactly how you feel about rockin’ the red! The boo was really encouraging and told me to wear it around the house until I got used to SEEING myself wearing it. I have huge lips so I don’t wanna draw attention to it. But I always love the way it looks on other people. I wore it for a couple weeks and then summer hit and I stopped wearing make up. Any hoo, I will rock it in the fall/winter too.

    Keep em moisturized!
