Review & Giveaway: Coastal.com

My first encounter with Coastal.com was about a year ago, when they were doing the “free pair of glasses” codes that exploded on Facebook and Twitter. I got a pair of glasses that ended up being too small, but they exchanged them for me. Then, the new pair of glasses got a scratch on the lens within the first week or so, and they replaced them for me. What I’m trying to say is, they did a lot for someone who didn’t even pay for a pair of glasses. I was extremely impressed with their customer service and the speed and ease with which I could make returns and exchanges.

I was recently contacted by another online glasses + contacts company and asked to do a review. I began to inquire about their customer service policies to see if they matched up with my beloved experience with Coastal.com, and they didn’t. So I thought, I don’t want to blog about another company! I want to blog about Coastal.com! I contacted Julia at Coastal and asked if we could work together. I am impressed with the way Coastal is using social media — they even have an Instagram account! — and wanted to brag about them. Because if there’s one thing I love, it’s a great deal. Combine that with excellent service and great social media  utilization and you will have my heart for all eternity.

I chose a pair of Tory Burch glasses to review, and I love them. They are stunningly gorgeous. I kind of just want to keep them to look at them…but I guess to really look at them, I need to wear them…so yeah. But here’s the thing. Julia (and everyone I’ve spoken to at Coastal.com) has been amazing to work with. The customer service is unbelievable. It’s so easy to order and they have about a bazillion (rough estimate) frames to choose from. And if you know me at all, you know I don’t rave about things unless I really love them. This company is the real deal.

So do you want to win a free pair of glasses or WHAT? Of course you do! Coastal.com and I are giving away THREE free pairs, no stipulations (so you can literally choose any pair on the website, designer frames and all). Here’s how to enter:

1. Leave a comment below with your thoughts and feelings about glasses. Feel free to wax eloquent. I love glasses and I love thoughts and feelings, so really, the sky is the limit.
2. Tweet a link to this post and a description of the frame you’d like to win. Be sure to add both myself @laurenfromtexas AND  @TweetCoastal to the end of the tweet so we will see it. Tweet once per day from now until the end of the contest for more chances to win.

Contest will end Saturday, May 5th, midnight CST. Two winners will be chosen at random via Twitter; one will be chosen at random via blog comments.

Good luck, my fellow four-eyed friends!

Disclaimer (and possible TMI): Obviously, Coastal.com sent me the glasses in exchange for this review. I was not monetarily compensated to write this post. All views and opinions expressed on this blog are my own. When I’m passionate about something, I rave about it. It’s as simple as that.

After beginning a job that requires me to be on the computer A LOT I realized that I need to start wearing my glasses more. Which is kind of awful in that I have to wear them ALL THE TIME but equally AWESOME because now I get to buy glasses and have a variety to choose from every day! I’ve only ever owned one pair which is about 3 or 4 years old now. Needless to say, it’s time for a new pair. Yikes.
    Anddddd I love the Ray-Bans ;)

  2. Michelle H. says:

After years of perfect vision, I got my first pair of glasses 3 years ago. I was overdue and just had my eyes examined and it’s time for a new pair. I can’t believe how much the optometrist wanted for glasses! I made him give me my prescription so I can compare online, hence how I found your review.

Your glasses look fantastic…much better than any I saw at the optometrist. I was worried all I’d find online were clunky, grandma glasses but I’m surprised at the variety..and price..Coastal has to offer.

  3. abby says:

Oh my goodness. I so need a new pair of glasses. I’m a contact wearer (since jr high!) but a good pair of glasses is always good to have. In college I got these new stylish glasses that I loved wearing. Well that was 11 years ago and lets say that they just aren’t very stylish anymore and frankly, when my daughter gave me pink eye last year I was devastated to wear them out in public to work. For years I’ve known that I need to get new glasses but I can never pull the trigger. I hope I win!

  4. Reen says:

LAUR. I love your new glasses! I’m more of a contact person, but only because my current glasses were purchased in 2005 (so horrible). I totally need a new pair. I think glasses can express your personality, whether they’re classy or funky! I would totes get a funky pair ;) Sign me up bebe.

  5. Julia Steele says:

I’ve had the same reading glasses since … wait … 1999!!! I like to think they are so old they are back in style. Those look awesome!

  6. Lauren says:

I have grown to love glasses more over the past couple of years. I’ve had to wear glasses since I was 8 years old, and needless to say, the 90s were not a good time for stylish glasses frames. But since I’ve graduated college and glasses have come into style, I have enjoyed picking out new frames that I can wear when it’s a “glasses day!”

  7. Georgina says:

First and foremost I am grateful for an HONEST review that I know I can trust. There’s something about LFT that shouts “No BS.” So if you say a company has great customer service I know they’ll do their best to make sure I leave happy.

Second, I wear glasses everyday and get a LOT of wear from them. I love the intellectually chic look and have worn the same pair of black Gucci frames for about 6 years. They’ve definitely given me good use however it is time to move on.

I started wearing glasses when I was about 2, there’s nothing cuter than a little tot with braces and thick lenses making her eyes seem 10 times the size they actually are.

If I won I would snatch up that unique Fendi 728 001 in Black because they’re similar to the ones I have but also a bit different (and I feel I have the confidence now to deviate from my normal routine). That’s a huge deal for me :)

  8. lauryn says:

I’m glad you’re sharing this company with us, because it sounds like they’ve really got a good thing going!

I would love to win. I wish I didn’t need glasses, but because my vision is getting worse with each passing day (or so it seems) I definitely need them in my life. The pair I have now aren’t bad, but I’d love a pair as cute as this one!

  9. Molly says:

Glasses don’t do a ton for me because my eye issues aren’t correctable. HOWEVER, sometimes I just like to wear them because it makes me feel like I’m at least doing something to correct my messed up vision on those particularly blurry days. So although I only wear them sometimes, I still want a cute pair for when I do…my current ones are UGLY

  10. Jen says:

I love my contacts, there’s no doubt about that. But every now and then, I’d like to have the option to wear glasses. You know, when I’m feeling “intelligent.” Unfortunately, my 10-year-old glasses are not exactly fashion-forward. So – here’s to hoping I’m a winner!!

  11. Meg says:

I have been trying to find the perfect pair of glasses lately because I like to switch it up from contacts. So here’s to hoping!!

  12. KT says:

I wear contacts mostly these days, but that’s because my current pair of Nine West glasses are a few years old with scratched lenses. So they only get worn in the mornings when I take the dogs out (before I put in my contacts) and at night right before I go to bed. Hopefully I win so that I can get a new pair!

  13. Kourtney says:

I absolutely cannot wear contacts, so I’m stuck with boring glasses. I have 2 pairs now, but neither are ‘cool’ in my opinon. It would be nice to have a stylish pair of frames that I feel good wearing and showing off!!

  14. Sarah says:

Oh man, I could go on for days about glasses. I’ve needed them since I was in 4th grade, when at the time the only thing available (and what my parents could afford), were the ugliest glasses ever! I felt so self-conscious. So as soon as I could, I switched to contacts. Now that I’m older though, there are multiple times where being able to wear glasses would come in handy (especially traveling!) but sometimes I am still scarred by that initial experience with glasses. I want to get over that! A new pair of gorgeous glasses without worrying about the price would be amazing!

  15. Erin @ The Speckled Palate says:

Honestly, I wouldn’t be able to do my job if I didn’t have my glasses, and I absolutely adore the pair I got in Nashville almost two years ago. I call them my editing glasses because I ALWAYS wear them while at the computer… which is a large part of my job. And I’d love to change it up with a different pair of glasses for shooting, as well. :)

I’m super excited to check out Coastal.com’s selection!

  16. Katherine says:

I dont need glasse but kinda wish I did after seeing yours! They look amazing on you beautiful sister of mine ;)

  17. Steph says:

I would love, love a new pair of glasses. I have one pair, but I rarely wear them because I’m so afraid that something will happen and I won’t have a backup! My vision is so terrible that I’m one of those people that it’s actually cheaper to wear contacts than glasses (that E at the top of the chart? Can’t see it! )
So, I end up only wearing my glasses when I go on dates with the hubs or girlfriend nights….never, ever at work(I’m a nurse) or when I’m with my toddler. I’d love to have 2 pairs so I could wear them more without freaking out about it!

  18. Jess says:

I love those!!! I would absolutely love a new pair of glasses. Sometimes my poor tired eyes just can’t handle contacts.

  19. Becca says:

I’ve worn glasses since 8th grade. In fact I only wear glasses because contacts hurt my sensitive lil eyeballs. So I’d love to have lots of different frames to wear as an accessories and I do have a couple…but if I have to wear them everyday I say the more options the merrier! Fun giveaway and a sweet tip on a cool company! Thanks!

  20. rachieannie says:

Glasses have been a part of my life since I was 10, so I’m used to having them around. However, lately I have been a contacts girl because I can’t find a pair of glasses that doesn’t give me a headache. But, they’re so necessary to life that I want to succeed! Maybe Coastal is the answer to all my problems :)

  21. Chell says:

Oooo! I LOVE your glasses! SOOO pretty! Cass desperately needs a new pair of glasses but if I won might just use them for me instead ;)

  22. sarah says:

I really LOVE these glasses, I wear glasses everyday, and like thicker frames but ones that have the nose piece. I am gonna need a pair of these!

  23. D'Rae says:

This is great! I HAVE to wear glasses and really need a new eye exam and a new pair of glasses. I hope to win cause they have a lot of frames to choose from.

  24. Meg says:

I wear glasses every day. At first, it was because I needed them to see far away, but I would still neglect to wear them every day just because I got tired of having things on my face.
Then, I decided to start wearing them every day. Not only am I dizzy way less (my eyes are different prescriptions), but it also made my coworkers stop telling me to get to class whenever I was in the hallway. Teaching is hard when you are in your 20′s and look like you could be 18. Yes.

I want contacts for my wedding, but I feel like my face is going to look weird. I wear glasses every day and people are used to it that way. It’s going to be an odd event.

  25. Meg says:

    Also, I twitted.

  26. Emily says:

I’ve worn contacts for close to 8 years, but eventually sleeping in them every night and never replacing them started messing with my eyes. So I finally got a pair of glasses that I like about 6 months back, and haven’t looked at my contacts again. And for some odd reason I can just see better out of glasses, so I refuse to take them off. I love my chunky frames, but glasses do tend to get expensive. It’d be nice to have a few pairs to switch between!

  27. Andrea says:

I LOVE Toru Burch!!! I want those glasses!!!!

  28. Kara says:

I love wearing my glasses to give my eyes a break from my contacts. Like this morning, when there was no chance in the world that they were going on my eyes. Allergy season sucks for contacts, so my glasses are my go-to for now!

  29. Caitlin says:

Honestly, I am a contact girl through and through. I think this mainly stems from all the theatre I did as a child, where wearing glasses was really just asking for trouble (my sister got the good eyes, so she could just go glasses-less while she performed and not fall off the front of the stage…lucky!) I’ve worn them for so long that I never thought of glasses as an accessory, more of a hinderance. But, I’ve been thinking about how awesome it might be to actually be able to choose to wear one of a few different pairs of glasses, instead of just popping on my one pair when I get home at night. I might actually wear glasses more often! I can’t really afford to get more than one pair of glasses, because my prescription is so bad (and it changes so often) that it would become an expensive habit. But I would definitely enjoy it while it lasted!

  30. Alena says:

Glasses, oh glasses. How I love glasses.

Ok that was cheese-tastic. In reality though I do love how I see with glasses on. I tried contacts once, and I didn’t think I could see as well. And I hate how my eye balls felt. I like my glasses i have now ok. But I wish I had a pair that weren’t so OBVIOUS. I don’t really know what i mean like that. But they are black and the sides are thick. And it’s just HELLO GLASSES. Which I really liked at first. Now now so much. So yeah.

Glasses, oh glasses. How I love glasses.

  31. Belle says:

Let me paint you a picture: quirky (read:weird) highschooler gets glasses for the first time. “gee wiz, I totally want the purple ones.” I try to blame this on the fact that I was visually impaired, but it turns out they were actually light purple tortoise frames. I’ve been to the eye doctor once since then, to up my prescription lenses into the SAME frames (my self esteem is either really low, or really high). As a 22 year old in grad school, I can’t pull them off anymore. hell, I could never pull them off. They’re still the only pair I have- I know it’s sad but I’m a poor college student. whadayagunnado.
alas, no twitter account. ;) you picked very pretty frames, though. I’m sure I’d have gone for something similar. then again, never trust my taste.

  32. jess m. says:

My insurance gets me glasses or contacts each year but not both so my glasses have gotten the shaft the last few years…would love some new ones!

  33. Lindsey says:

When I was little I always wanted to wear glasses, and when I was told I had to wear them, but only for reading, I felt cheated! Now I have to wear them all the time, and I love them!! I’d love to win this giveaway, so I could get a pair to wear in my wedding! My everyday glasses are plastic and not dressy, so I need a nice metal pair to rock with my dress!

  34. Suburban Sweetheart says:

I love glasses but get nervous about the part between my eyes & the glasses, where if I look sideways, I can’t see anything. I think I look cute in glasses, though, so I don’t think I need to wear them more often to get over this nervousness.

  35. Kellie Rose Wilson says:

Dear glasses, what would I do without thee??
for it is you, that helped me to see..
all the blogs I love so dear,
suddenly all the lovely posts became so clear.
Some tell me to wear contacts or have surgery,
but you make me distinguished, glasses..you complete me.
You are not fancy..no big name designer..
but we fit together like a lazy man in his recliner.
I love you more and more each day..
we are soul mates, so let’s keep it that way! :)

  36. Chelsea says:

I’ve had glasses since I was two. You know this. Glasses are expensive and I hate that I have to buy them. Winning them is awesome!

  37. Natalia says:

As a mom of a three year old and one on the way – I sometimes just don’t have time to put on the contacts. It would be better if my glasses weren’t older than my son!

  38. Beth Anne says:

Growing up, I HATED my glasses (worn them since I was 8 years old) & had contacts by the time I was 10 years old. I never really wore my glasses unless I was a) sick or b) stumbling to pee at 3am. Until this past winter when I FINALLY embraced the four-eyes.

  39. Lauren says:

I literally just told my mom that I was on the hunt for new glasses. I got the ones I have now on an impulse shopping trip where the “deal was good”. They are uncomfortable and quite frankly, I think they’re ugly – I don’t know why I even bought them.
    This is a great giveaway!

  40. Lauren says:

http://oolalalauren.blogspot.com/ is my website, my bad.

  41. Megan says:

I loooove my glasses and wear them everyday!

  42. E says:

I wear glasses everyday, in part because my eyes are dry, but mostly because I love them.

  43. Nicole Organ says:

I used to wear glasses until I had lasik a few years ago. Now I have a new obsession: SUNGLASSES!

  44. Whitney Rice says:

I have a love hate relationship with glasses. I love them because they are a cute way to accessorize… but I hate to wear them. :/

  45. Lea says:

I have always loved glasses. I just recently started to wear contacts, and I am still getting used to them. I love wearing glasses because I can take them off whenever I want, and they are a great accessory. Not to be conceited or anything, but I think glasses look great on me!!

I cannot find the glasses you are wearing on their website. I love them, they are my style!

  46. Traci says:

The glasses look stunning on you! I have a love/hate relationship with glasses, but it’s mostly hate and wear contacts most of the time. I don’t have a SUPER cute pair of glasses that have changed my mind as of yet, however. I’d love to win.

  47. Katie says:

I absolutely love wearing glasses… I consider them an accessory just like a bracelet or necklace… now, if only they were as inexpensive as those things! I’d love to have a bunch of different pairs! :)

  48. Katie says:

As a person who has to wear glasses all the time(I’m like blind without!) I love finding cute new styles to wear. I don’t normally consider glasses the most fashionable item but I want something that makes me feel pretty besides making me see. I love that glasses are becoming more popular.

  49. Jeni says:

I LOVE Coastal! I actually got a free pair of glasses from them too and was super impressed with the quality (and enjoy having a fun pair of “extra” glasses).

  50. Kaye says:

It took me a long time to like glasses. I let my eyes get really bad in grade 4 before getting them checked and I always felt so insecure and awkward. In high school I switched to contacts and loved them. But my eyes get so dry and now that I’m 22, I can’t stand to keep them on for long. So now I’m back to glasses. And I just recently realized which frames suite my face and that I’m not so awkward and ugly in glasses after all! It would be perfect to win this, I just got a new prescription and am in desperate need to upgrade my glasses (to a pair where I actually look cute!)

  51. Laura says:

I would LOVE another pair of glasses. I really like the ones I have, but since they’re brown I feel like they don’t really go with everything. I hope I win!

  52. Lauren says:

I had always wanted glasses until I was forced into them on my 16th birthday when I couldn’t pass the eye test to get my license. (Traumatizing.) I wear glasses occasionally but tend to stick to the contacts since my glasses are rather bright and not quite right for every day wear.

  53. Hallie says:

Given the amount of computer work I do these days I have noticed my eyes feel much better after a long day of work if Ive been wearing glasses instead of contacts. Only problem is my frames are 8 or 9 years old! Definitely time for a new pair and these are soooo cute!

  54. Christina says:

I would love another pair of glasses – I hate spending my annual vision insurance allowance on frames since I always also need contacts. But I’d love to be able to update my look with some new, trendy frames!

  55. Megan says:

I need to win this contest because numero uno, I am nearly blind as a bat and numero dos, I am somewhat fashionably challenged so this would totally up my sophistication status and numero tres (which also supports numero dos), I am currently sporting some specs with a major crack in the right lens. Could I be a more perfect candidate for this contest?!

  56. Sarah says:

Oh my gosh! I recently started wearing glasses again after a couple of years without after lasik. Now I can’t get enough of them! I love my glasses! They are another accessory. I love checking out other people’s glasses too. I’m obsessed!

  57. Amanda Sakovitz says:

I have been wearing glasses since high school. At first I honestly wasnt pleased to wear them. I tried contacts but my eyes were so dry that I couldnt keep them in. Now I think glasses are sexy and definitely complete any outfit. In love with the glasses you chose!

  58. jen says:

i hate my glasses, i have been wearing them since second grade. this explains why i never wear them, i have had at least three stronger prescriptions but have not updated my glasses…me thinks its time…

  59. Lynn says:

I’ve been wearing glasses since the 3rd grade. It’s taken many years to reach this point, but I’ve grown to love them. I used to be so embarrassed about having to wear glasses, but now I feel like they make me “me.” I love companies with great customer service so Coastal sounds like the perfect place for me! Thanks for the chance to win. (Paying for prescription eyeglasses is quite the burden on an uninsured college student like me so I would be ecstatic to win this!)

  60. Chuck says:

I love that fact that Coastal’s cost effective approach to spectacles has finally allowed this bald fat man to accessorize. I now try to make sure that my glasses are color coordinated with my outfit.

  61. Amanda Kaiser says:

I wear glasses or contacts on a daily basis. i find myself wearing glasses more, as contacts seem to irritate my eyes. I do not currently own a pair of designer frames, just some cheap Wal-Mart frames. It would be awesome to win designer frames!!!

  62. Ms. Reverie says:

I need free glasses cuzzzz I just awkwardly went into my boyfriend’s work where he was meeting a hot chick out back for a smoke break where he was sharing his cigarettes with her. Well, me the non smoker happened to walk into the store to get paint samples and got invited to the private rendez-vous. It was awkward to say the least, and now I feel like I’m going to throw up. So I think I deserve some free specs. please and thank you.

love your blog by the way

  63. Deirdre says:

I own a pair of Coastal.com glasses, but alas with two kids under the age of three constantly grabbing at me and playing with me, they have a lovely crack in them. Thus, I am in need of a new pair ASAP. Thanks for the opportunity to win.

  64. bldtara says:

OMG you look SO cute in those….I would vote that Ms Reverie should get them because she needs some girl love.

Great blog btw and <333 those glasses
