Weekend-stagram

How is it already Wednesday? HOW IS IT ALREADY FEBRUARY?

This weekend was the perfect blend of relaxing and productive…meaning it was like 80:20, respectively, maybe. Those are the best kinds of weekends, am I right? You get just enough done to feel slightly accomplished, but you mostly lounge around, let your body unwind from the previous week, and prepare for the week ahead.

{clearly someone partied too hard on Friday night}

Saturday was for a big Wal-Mart trip (we rarely visit Wal-Mart but when we do, it’s srs bsnss) for groceries, dog stuff, and supplies to Michael could fix a couple of things for me (insert smiley face with hearts for eyes here); thrifting and finding some really great picture frames for $1 each; listening to music in the sunshine; a run at the gym; and peanut butter brownies. Sunday was for finally using my sewing machine that I got last Christmas (sorry Mom, but I do love it!); picnicking on the porch of a project*; and a long walk at the park with the dogs (complete with wine in paper cups, because we keep it classy).

*My parents bought an investment/rental property near our house, and they and Michael have been working on it for the past few months, getting it fixed up to rent. The progress they’ve made is amazing. It’s gone from scary shack to adorable bungalow. Since we can’t live there, and the new tenants haven’t moved in yet, we decided to make use of the sunny front porch and have a picnic there on Sunday. It was the right thing to do.

I love weekends that remind me how wonderful life can be if I allow it, by focusing on the good instead of the bad. The items I listed above are simple little things that individually don’t seem like much, but when I add them up and reflect on them, instead of dwelling on the things I can’t change anyway, life seems much more beautiful.

And of course, I ended my Sunday with my favorite ritual: Making a to-do list for the week ahead, and making Monday its very own to-do list. I feel that by doing that, I set an intention for the week. If I don’t have a good, productive Monday, the rest of my week usually falls flat. Mondays are hard enough as it is, so they need some extra bulletproofing.

What’s your favorite way to spend a weekend?

    This sounds like a perfect weekend. I especially like the dog walk with wine and paper cups. We do the same thing, but it’s usually beer in travel mugs. :)

    I think you’re right about the 80:20 ratio for perfect weekends. Relaxation is important, but easier to accomplish if you have one or two tasks under your belt. Hope you’re having a great week!

    CAMEL SHOES!!!

    “*sniff* Why didn’t you tell me?!…I’m wearing the camel shoes!!!”

    I also think the 80:20 ratio is a healthy one. I remember someone saying once, “I would rather have a pastor who preaches a solid 80% message every Sunday for 10 years than a pastor who preaches a 100% message every Sunday who will inevitably burn out in 2 years.” I think the same can apply to any work/life situation. Better to give 80% to finish the race than to give 100% and not have enough energy to cross the finish.

    Your weekend sounds wonderful.
    I love weekend getaways and parties as much as the next person, but those low-key weekends are really my favorites :)

    Hope Pancho is doing better!
