Something worth fighting for.

Something worth fighting for.

In the middle of…

Did you put the garbage out?
Did you get the mail?
Can you pick up some milk?
We are out of cereal.
We are out of toilet paper.
We are out of everything.
Rent is due.
My feet hurt.
I have to study.
I have to work on Saturday.
Pancho needs his medicine.
I have a headache.
I am SO TIRED.
Can you walk the dogs?
Did you leave the door open?
Will you rub my shoulders?

In the middle of LIFE: every day, hectic, sometimes monotonous, always exhausting, I’m thankful for the little glimpses of romance that seemingly appear out of nowhere.

I found this photo on my computer a couple of days ago, tucked away in a random folder. It’s from our engagement photo shoot. My breath caught in my throat as I remembered how I felt that day, and all the reasons I loved Michael at that moment. Now, I love him in so many different ways, for so many different reasons. There were things I didn’t know then, about marriage and husbands, things that had never crossed the mind of a 21-year-old who was so head over heels she couldn’t think straight. And now, nearly 4 years later, I’m still learning new things. Through ups-and-downs, through struggling to get to the light at the end of the tunnel, sometimes straining to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Through fighting so hard we forget what it is we’re were fighting for, and that we’re on the same side, then finally coming up for air only to realize that it’s all worth it to fall asleep every night next to someone who loves you in spite of everything and thinks you’re worth the fight.

Today isn’t an anniversary, or even a special date. It’s just a Wednesday, the trash needs to be taken out, and we’re out of milk. But I’m married to an amazing man who still looks at me the way he is looking at me in this photo, and I think that’s cause for commemoration.

My gosh, how wise and insightful. I needed to hear it. The fight gets only more intense and the motivation only more blurry as time goes by. I think it has to do with fighting to raise children. There is just so much. I’m looking for the light at the end knowing full well it is there. Thanks for the encouragement!

  26. From Aimee:

That’s so stinkin sweet!!! And absolutely right. Beautiful. I can relate…I’m a 24 year old and have been married 4 years.
