Four eyes.

Dress: Ross; Sweater: T.J.Maxx; Lipstick: NARS Jungle Red; Glasses: Michael Kors; Hair: Hot rollers

I’ve been so busy this week. My inbox is threatening to take over my life, and every shoe I’ve worn since Monday is parked squarely in the middle of my dining room (from when I get home in the evening and am too tired to even take one more step to my closet). Pancho definitely gave me the cold shoulder last night, as if to say Where have you been all week?

I’m still loving my new job, but I am looking forward to a little down time this weekend. This is a fast paced business, and every day when I look up and see 6pm on the clock I’m in shock. But I can’t really complain about work days flying by!

I have been getting headaches for the longest time, and have been trying to pinpoint their cause. I was prescribed slight reading glasses about 7 years ago (yikes) but I never wear them and don’t really feel like I need them. Recently I’ve been noticing that things far away are getting quite blurry, and it worries me when I’m driving and can’t see road signs until I’m really close to them. So I went in to see the eye doctor, who told me that I’m a bit nearsighted and gave me a prescription.

Yesterday I picked up my new glasses, which are Michael Kors (and make me feel fancy). When I put them on, I was shocked at how clear everything suddenly looked. I thought, have I been walking around for who knows how long, looking at everything through blurry vision? There’s a comedian named Brian Regan who does a sketch about the eye doctor and how he never gets his prescription changed, saying “I don’t have time to see!” Then, when he finally gets a new prescription and can see clearly, he says, “I could have been seeing things!”

Last night I went to a Chamber of Commerce banquet to network for the hotel. I wore a little black dress, red lipstick, and my glasses. I was amazed; I sat in the back of the room and could clearly see the speaker on stage. Was my eyesight really that bad? I called my mom and told her “You need to make an eye appointment for you and Dad right away! Y’all could be seeing things!”

I’m running on Dr. Pepper and my desk is too full of things to draw much of a parallel, but y’all are smart cookies. Even if your eyesight is 20/20, take time to see things, really see them, this weekend. It’s worth the trouble, I promise.

Comments on Four eyes.

  1. From Liz:

Remember my post about when I got my new glasses last month? Post twins!

ps; you are smokin’! ow ow owww.

  2. From Kelly O:

I’ve been wearing glasses since I was in the second grade, but I still sometimes go a smidge too long between new pairs. So, even if you can see things now, make sure you keep it up.

I feel like a genius every time I get a new pair of glasses and realize how bad the old pair was.

  3. From megan:

LOVE your glasses! I have the same problem, always putting off my check-ups and then I get new contacts and realize just how bad it had become…

p.s. I love that Brian Regan sketch, I think about it whenever I go to the eye dr. now… so much pressure!

  4. From Marlena:

I’ve been in slight denial about my own eyesight for the past couple of years. I used to be impressed with the fact that I could read words or clock times from far away. Now I have to squint and guess. Sigh. On a happier note, you look like your sister in the right pic. :-)

  5. From Reen:

You look so retro and hot!

  6. From Kathleen:

You LOOK fancy! Sometimes I wish I needed glasses because I like how classy & smart girls look when they’re wearing them.

  7. From Cio:

love how the red lipstick pops against your porcelain skin…also, can I just say how jeal i am about your hair color?? it’s gorgeous. You’re gorgeous. and Chic!

  8. From wishcake:

    Insanely gorgeous. The end.

  9. From Blair@HeirtoBlair:

Look. I don’t mean to get all romantic on you, but you are INSANELY BEAUTIFUL.

I don’t think I would ever step away from a mirror if I were you.

  10. From Chelsea:

Okay that happened to me too! Or at least something similar… I realized my 20/20 vision was digressing while driving at night, I couldn’t see the exit signs until I was right up on them! That’s pretty scary when driving at night. My Dr. said he would give me the lowest possible prescription, wow what a difference that slight change made! I still tend to forget I have glasses until I start squinting and then I pull them out lol. You look fabulous in your glasses btw ;)

  11. From jody:

Such cute glasses on you. I love getting new glasses – it’s like a new face. Nerdy can be sexy too.

Was I the only one in high school that had fake glasses? They were just plastic lenses, but if my outfit was a little on the bookish side that day, I wore them. And now I need them for real. Le sigh.

    • From sarah marie p:

I also had fake glasses in high school! And Ok, fine I might have worn them again a few times two years ago.

  12. From Jill:

Ok, I mean this in the least lesbo-way possible, but you look smokin in your black outfit, red hair, red lips, and glasses! Michael better keep you on a short leash hott momma! :) I’m glad you’re enjoying your new job! It definitely makes it easier going to work every day.

  13. From sarah marie p:

Cute new glasses, lady! You are rocking them! Also loving the lipstick. And I adore that you referenced a Brian Regan joke! I’m going to see him next month for the 4th time. :)

  14. From Cole:

Holy moly, you make glasses GORGEOUS. They should keep this pic and show to kids who are getting glasses for the first time and think they’re nerdy.

I don’t know who “they” are.

  15. From Ivy:

I LOVE your new glasses!! And I don’t know if it’s the lighting or whatnot but your hair color looks awesome!

    • From Ivy:

Ummmm just re-read that and want to clarify….your hair color never looked bad I just love the brown on you…LOL

  16. From Kara:

Love the glasses! They look fabulous! I was on the prescription glasses hatin’ bandwagon for the LONGEST time until I got them and could actually see things! It was like wearing those HD Wrap-Around classes. Amazing!

  17. From E.P.:

You look so cute, lady! And I love your glasses! And after reading this post, I called my eye doc to make an appointment because I purchased a Groupon last week for new fancy glasses.

Hooray for being able to see better!

  18. From Stephany:

At first, I thought “ME AND LAUREN HAVE THE SAME GLASSES” Then I saw yours are Michael Kors…and mine were off the rack for $69. So…maybe not. ;)

But I did just get an eye exam and new glasses and when I put my new ones on, I was ASTONISHED at how much clearer things were! I didn’t even realize how bad I was seeing before, my glasses being 3-4 years old.

  19. From Desi:

UMMM you look Gorgeous!!!! The glasses…and red lips definitley suit you ;)

  20. From mary:

I still remember vividly driving home from getting my glasses when I was 7. The leaves on the trees and the yards of grass had definition. They weren’t simply areas of green. It was lovely.

  21. From mary:

On second thought, I vividly remember. Perhaps we vividly drove, but I don’t remember that.

  22. From Jenni:

Haha…. this reminded me of when I was about 8 years old and living in Germany with my family. We would always go cool places and see cool things… well, everyone except me would see them. My parents thought I was kind of slow or something, because I was always missing things. Parents: “Look at the deer!” Jenni: “Where?!” Parents: “Look at the plane!” Jenni: “WHERE?!”

Finally they got my eyes checked, and it turns out I was blind as a friggin bat. I missed so much life. It’s quite sad, actually. No wonder the memories of my childhood are so fuzzy!

  23. From Heather:

Girl you look like a movie star!! Or a glasses model. HOT STUFF!

  24. From storytimewithnicole:

OooooooooooOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooo!!! Very Liz Lemon of you…

    : D

  25. From kayleigh:

Have you always been so pointy?

  26. From Amy:

Pete and I had a very similar conversation driving this morning when he was wearing my glasses, saying things like “Whoaaaaa, you can see, like, the textures of the trees and stuff!” It sounded very much like he was stoned, but he was just amazed at how much better the world looks when you can actually see it :)

  27. From sarah:

    Your glasses look fab!

  28. From zburrows:

Seriously? Be hotter. Oh wait… you cant!!!!!!!

  29. From Miss Social:

You look like the next star of Mad Men!
