New Job, Chapter 1.

As cliché as it sounds, today I begin a new chapter. For the last 3 years, I’ve been working from home, doing SEO & link building. The most common reaction when I told someone I worked from home was, “How did you get that job?!” As in, “How can I get a job like that?!” Which was usually followed with, “There are so many things I could be doing if I worked from home!” And while working from home has its perks, it is not without its share of drawbacks. It can get rather isolated. Especially when you move to a new town. It can also get very predictable. My job had reached the point of complete monotony; each day was pretty much exactly like the day before. Additionally, I’d been working in a competitive field, which led to a lot of stress. I was lonely and frustrated.

Enter The Opportunity. It kind of fell into my lap, when I went to a ladies brunch about a month ago. I was invited by my landlord as a chance to network with some women from the college. It just so happened that I sat next to a lovely woman from a hotel in town, and we exchanged information. A week or so later, her boss emailed me and wanted me to come in for an interview. Shortly after, I was offered a job. A job doing something completely different, a job filled with exciting opportunities and lots of new people. I spent some of my holiday vacation time researching ways to make it happen, and after the first of the year, I put in my 2 weeks’ notice. Friday was my last day. Saturday I was already at the hotel, working my first event.

It’s all happened so quickly and in a whirlwind fashion, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. I feel excited, more excited than I’ve felt in a very long time. I’ll be doing a little bit of everything for the hotel: marketing, sales, event planning, social media, blogging (!!!), writing, PR… the list goes on. Thanks for bearing with me lately, as I’ve been busy. Transitions are always hectic, but I’m looking forward to settling in and working on new projects. I’ll get to use my creative side in my professional life as well as my personal, which will be such a refreshing change of pace. I’m sure there will be lots of new updates soon, but until then, I just wanted to fill everyone in on what’s going on over here. Thanks for all the sweet congratulations and well wishes on Twitter. Y’all are the best.

Happy Monday, and here’s to a fantastic week and new beginnings!
