Seeing red.

I don’t know what’s come over me, y’all. It’s like I was blonde for so long & now that I’ve crossed over to the dark side, I can’t stop. My goal was to get to a dark red by winter, & I believe I’ve achieved that goal. I had emailed Taryn for the hair color she uses, bought a couple of boxes, & last Wednesday night, this is what I did with my evening:

Clockwise from top left: minutes after dyeing (& a little in shock); the next night; curled with a 1″ curling iron; freshly washed. All photos taken with my MBP (Photo Booth) with no color editing.

I love how it looks different all the time under different types of light. I love how vibrant it is. Michael is skeptical, especially since lately he’s been really wistful for my blonde hair. However, I’m trying to convince him I look exactly like Scarlett Johansson in Ironman 2, & that all I need is a leather bodysuit and he will love it as much as I do.

Come to think of it, he probably wouldn’t care what color my hair was if I was wearing a leather bodysuit.

Am I going to keep this color? I haven’t decided yet. That’s the fun of it. In a couple of months, I may change my mind all over again. And that’s okay. Michael will get used to it. After all, Gentlemen may prefer blondes, but it takes a real man to handle a redhead.”

Comments on Seeing red.

  1. From shepirate:

My husband is always lobbying for the blonde too. I’ve been through all colors of the rainbow (so almost literally…) so I can now honestly say that blonde is my color. You, on the other hand, look gorgeous in all colors, and it’s cool that you have a winter coat on – I too toned down on the blonde this winter. I can even picture you in pitch black and think you’d look like a pin up girl, but don’t get any ideas because black is AWFUL to get out of your hair afterwards.

  2. From Ana:

I love that hair color. If I had the complexion to pull it off I would go for a similar shade. A new hair color is always nice. :)

  3. From Smile Steady:

That’s the best part about being a woman! You can change it up whenever you want! I think red looks good on you.

  4. From mandy:

I love it! The color looks great on you. A bonus (or negative) is that red fades quickly so if you’re not absolutely sold on the color, you can change it again soon.

  5. From Desi:

I love it. I think you look amazing with dark hair, but then again, I thought you looked amazing with blonde hair too….but you’d look reallllyyyy amazing in a leather bodysuit hahaha.

  6. From Erin:

I LOVE IT!! It’s perfect for winter & a switch-up. Last year I went really dark, and Jason’s cousin’s said to him, “Yeah I like the switch-up, too. Sometimes my wife wears wigs in the bedroom.” TMI! :)

  7. From Cio:

You are gorgeous in any hair color. Seriously.
But I like this color A LOT. Mostly cause
it brings out your eyes, like I said. Also
because it gives your skin a little pinkish hue.
    and Who doesn’t want that?!
You’re right. Leather body suit = don’t matter what color your hair is. LOL. Especially when you’ve got a tiny figure like you.

I vote this color, for a long while! (or your know…forever) or at least until I can see it in person!

    xoxo

  8. From Liz:

    I agree with Cio ^^
You would look gorgeous in green hair. <3

  9. From zburrows:

I dont have a husband. But I LOVE your color. I think it is very sexy (if my vote counts).

  10. From Julie:

I love the color!! I seriously think it looks great! How did you get your eyebrow color to match your new hair color so well?!

  11. From Suburban Sweetheart:

I lovvvve dark hair on you. This is delightful.

  12. From Katie:

Lookin’ gorgeous, Lauren. That color looks great on you

  13. From Thea:

The red looks beautiful and festive! I do still love ya as a blonde too ;)

  14. From Ashlee:

    LOVE IT. Gorg.

  15. From Andrea:

You look great! I dabbled in RED for a while, too, but I don’t have the DIY SkillZ that you do and it faded too fast for me to maintain. I think every girl wants to be a redhead for a hot minute. Enjoy it! You look stunning.

  16. From Meghan:

I love the colour, it looks great on you but may be a little biased as a red head.

  17. From victoria:

I love your hair the way it is, I went my natural hair color with the blonde highlights that were already there and I love it!!! My husband wishes I was blonde again though, but the upkeep is crazy!!! Especially with long curly hair!!!

  18. From kate @ undeniable style:

    Love it! You look great!

  19. From Amy:

I can’t pull off red but it looks fantastic on you. I’m always a little envious of girls who can work a fun colour so well. Looking good!!

  20. From Kyla Roma:

Dying your hair is such a slippery slope- it’s always so much fun and I can’t stop choosing colours either! I think you look beautiful no matter which colour you have, you have the attitude to rock them all :)

  21. From Nora:

Ah, changing hair colors. I’m still trying to get back to my natural color (what is it you ask!? I’m not quite sure. A rich, very dark, almost black brown I think) and in the process I keep getting a brown/red tint going on thanks to all the previous dye jobs I’ve done. I’m working on it though! And red? It is a fun color! I love it on you!

  22. From Cleshopaholic:

    LOVE it!!!!!

  23. From steph anne:

Oooh, I really like it!!! I don’t mind trying red but I’m too scared to, lol.

  24. From Laura:

This color looks great on you!! I mentioned dyeing my hair to my husband and his vote is for a dark red like yours or dark brown, my vote is for something much lighter, we’ll see what happens!

  25. From Jen:

    I love the color!
If I might ask- what is it?? I color my hair red as well, and I am always looking for a better color. Could you email it to me??

  26. From Morgan | Mrs. Priss:

ooh I love! I’m interested to know what shade that is as well. copy cat right hurr.

No, but seriously, you look gorgeous in every color I’ve seen so far. Lucky lady!
