I realize I’m a little behind with the whole “Year of Thrift” thing. I promise to be okay with it if you are. Here are the goodies I found in the month of August.

I picked up these tiny owls & tiny tea tin at an antique store, & paid $3 for both items. The dog I actually got in July, but forgot to list her then. Isn’t she the cutest? I think I paid $1 for her.

So we all knew a glass item was going to make an appearance, & it’s fair that with the items I’ve been picking up lately, you can add “Crazy Bird/Owl Lady” to my resume. Both of these gems were found at a garage sale down the street from my house; I think I paid $2-3 for both items.

Every time I come home with a new mug, Michael rolls his eyes & says “Where are we going to put THAT?” It’s true, our Mug Cabinet overfloweth, but I can’t resist cute mugs for coffee & tea, it’s just not possible. And because this one is Pyrex? Meant it was coming home with me for sure. I paid 75 cents for this beauty. I had seen the orange juice jug during a previous shopping trip, but this time it was 50% off. For $2, dreams of mimosa brunches with this retro pitcher danced through my head, & it was home with me before you could say eggs & pancakes.

You will rarely see me without a pair of earrings, & these tiny gold treasures were too fun to pass up. (Don’t worry, they took a long bath in some rubbing alcohol before I let them grace my ears.) I paid 50 cents for both pairs, doesn’t get better than that!

These belts were $2 each (& the gold one is a Fossil belt, score!). Wouldn’t the purple one look adorable with something brown? Excuse me while I add “brown dress” to my ever-growing wish list.

I’ll be wearing this peacock-colored owl brooch when I claim my title of Craziest Bird & Owl Lady of Texas, thank you very much. Wouldn’t he look cute on a chain as a necklace? I paid 50 cents for him. And this ring is silver & CZ. It was filthy when I found it but when I saw it was silver, I knew it could be cleaned right up. I paid $2 for it & I love its vintage “Grandma Glam”* look.

Maybe this hoodie isn’t very vintage, but it is comfy. It looked brand-new & was $4; it’s perfect for these fall days in Texas that aren’t very “fally” but are more like “Hi I’m October but I’m still going to be in the 8o’s mmkay?”

This sweater is actually Old Navy & was $3.50. My sister talked me into buying it & I’m glad she did. The seafoam green color is soft & pretty. Again, it’s perfect for the days when I want to wear a sweater but the Texas weather isn’t cooperating. The emerald-esque pendant is one of my favorite things from this month & was only $1.

I was the most skeptical about this sweater, but my sister convinced me that it was a “model sweater” & would look great with skinny jeans & boots around the holidays. Remember that 30 Rock where Liz Lemon is filming the intro for her new show Dealbreakers & Pete tells her to “wave like a human being”? That’s sort of what happened to me when I tried to photograph myself in this sweater. I felt super awkward & the pictures show it. However, it is comfy & I can totally see myself snuggled up in front of the fire on the set of The Family Stone. Right after I confess my undying love for both SJP & Rachel McAdams & they’re all “How much did you pay for that sweater? You paid too much.” By the way, I paid 50 cents for it, THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
So that’s August. September to come soon!
What was your favorite item? Have you uncovered any amazing thrift finds lately?
*“Grandma Glam” is a style I began to embrace in early college, when most of my wardrobe consisted of embellished cardigans, flats made of things like tweed & velour, & I went through a mild brooch obsession. I’ve since learned to balance GG with other elements as to not look, I don’t know, eighty years old and crazy? I thought that was worth an honorable mention though; maybe I’ll dig up some GG LfT photos sometime. <3

I love the emerald pendant. I inherited a bunch of really cool old jewelry from my grandmother that I’ve been wearing out of the box one piece at a time. It’s my little way of carrying her with me where ever I go.
Think of the stories behind these items! It’s fun to imagine the lives they saw before they got to you. That’s why I heart thrift stores :)
Meghan says:
And yes, wherever is one word. I got excited and hit submit before I spell checked. Forgive me, it’s the sinuses.
Katherine says:

I think it should be said that you’re just the cutest…well what’s an “adult” word for cute? Anyway, you would look great in anything from a thrift store to a runway Lauren! So, even if these clothes were hideous rags you’d somehow make them look good. Great finds!
Tabaitha Kaye says:
I’m obsessed with Coffee Mugs! I have two tall cabinets full of them and yet I can’t help but want more.
San says:
Great finds, Lauren.
I really love the last (model) sweater on you :) I am glad your sister convinced you to get it!!
Also: I can’t go thrifting without buying at least one mug either. There are so many pretty vintage mugs to be found and they’re always so cheap!
Look at my new vintage tea mug:

Suburban Sweetheart says:
HOW ARE YOU SO GOOD AT THIS? Everything I find at the thrift is, like, dirty & broken. I looove the model sweater, the Pyrex mug, the emerald brooch, the silver ring… dude, scores all around. I’m so impressed.
Julie D. says:
The black earrings, emerald pendant, and silver ring are my fave! I love accessories. :) I have been getting into studs since I’ve had short hair recently too.

Model sweater, emerald pendant & the black earrings are my favourites! We have a set of those Pyrex mugs in our office cupboard, only with blue flowers instead of brown :)

you kill me with your cuteness. seriously.
LOVE the emerald necklace and the last two sweaters. I’m also a sucker for all things hoody, so yeah, that’s adorable too!
When I meet you promise we can go thrifting together!?
Jen says:
I’m glad you posted this. ManFriend makes fun of me, calling me grandma, because I wear cardigans. Like, all the time.
And I was also told pearls are grandma, and I wear them almost every day. Although, I think that statement is absolutely ludacris.
Grandma Glam is awesome. And you rock it!
Miss Social says:
I love that white sweater! You look like Jackie O in that!
sarahdotcom says:
Haaah. Grandma Glam, so fantastic. Julia teases me about my Grandpa Chic style, but I love it. Bring on the monstrous glasses & loafers =)
The model sweater is the loveliest. Great purchases, miss!
sarah marie p says:
You found so many awesome treasures! I love the owl and dog figurines! Too cute! And yeah, I’m so bad at wanting to take home every teacup/mug that I find. My husband also reminds me that we already have too many mugs. I just can’t resist! Omg that orange juice pitcher! Perfect! Cardigans + flats + such are my favorite! I love the “granny chic” look! :)
Jamie says:
I love that last sweater on you! You may have felt awkward, but you look gorgeous in it :)
Lyndsey says:
Yes! I got this awesome set of cobalt blue salt and pepper shakers. I ADORE them.
And I got a sterling silver jewelry case.
