Happy Friday! I should be heading back to Texas very shortly, & to get ready for my reappearance in the Lone Star State, what better than a Texan-style fashion guide? Kristina from Pretty Shiny Sparkly is a fellow blonde Texan, & I adore her daily dose of pretty over on her corner of the internet. So put your high heels on & settle in, because y’all are about to be schooled, PSS-style.

one, two, three, four, five, and six
Howdy y’all. I’m PSS, a blog-friend (briend?) of Lauren’s, and I love fashion. No, really, I do. I actually live in the same city as LFT, but mysteriously have not yet had the pleasure of meeting her IRL. (We must change that, Lauren!)
I want to introduce you to a fabric that has been flitting about the fashion industry, sprinkling its influence in literally every area of clothing, accessories and apparel (don’t believe me?). Chambray. Say it with me. “Sham-bray!”
More like cham-wow.
Did I just go there? Why, yes, yes I did.
What the heck is chambray?
cham·bray: \ˈsham-ˌbrā, -brē\ n. from Cambrai, France, 1814. a lightweight clothing fabric with colored warp and white filling yarns [source]
Chambray is that kinda-sorta-like denim fabric that can have the look of denim, but only when you rub it between your fingers do you realize it’s something different entirely. If you live in a hot climate like LFT and I do, chambray is a godsend. It’s lightweight. It’s even more breathable than denim. It has this soft, ripple-in-the-breeze quality to it that denim can never come close to.
Did I mention it’s lightweight? (Read: less back- & thigh-sweat on picnics. Yes, I just said back-sweat. We all have sweat glands back there. You’re not fooling anyone.)
The coolest thing about chambray is that it is so versatile. It can look like denim, or it can look (as in the floral dress above) almost wool-like with alternating fibers of white and grey. It’s also extremely economical fabric, so most of the time it’s available at very appealing prices.
Put a little chambray into your life. And when you do, snap a pic and send it to me – I’d love to see what you come up with! Here’s my latest incarnation.
Hope y’all enjoyed this little field trip into fashion! Let’s both agree to ignore the fact that I said back-sweat. Three times.
xoxo

From Heather:
I’m wearing a chambray jacket today! (Check out my fledgling fashion blog) I thought it was denim but I was just schooled by you. :-)
