Wherein I'm Painfully Awkward.

I’m enjoying this Disclosing of All Random Information Day once a week. Maybe I’ll make it a series? Let’s hope it has a longer life than my other series…es. I make no promises.

  • Huge announcement: Michael has been ACCEPTED into grad school! This is huge. HUGE. He applied to 10 (!!!) & has only heard back from 1 so far, but that 1 was a yes so at least we know we are going! I’ll wait to tell you where until plans are a little firmer. Slash we hear back from the other schools because I’m kind of terrified of where this one is located.
  • In relation to the previous announcement, we have a realtor coming to our house on Monday to tell us what we need to do to sell. We really need to sell by June or July. Hold me.
  • Still working on the next installment of our love story. I had wanted to post it on the anniversary of the day we began dating (February 25th, 2007), but I need a little more time to work on it. Look for it sometime next week.
  • I’m meeting with David tomorrow to talk about redesigning my blog & I’m pretty excited. Lots of ideas I can’t wait to discuss with him.
  • My birthday is in 1 week. I’m turning the big 24. No one cares when you turn 24.
  • Katherine turned 21 on Wednesday. Lots of people care when you turn 21. I am one of those people, so I’m throwing her a little party on Saturday night. Which reminds me, I have some water balloons & a piñata to buy. (I kid.)
  • Michael & I are planning a romantic getaway sometime soon (his 31st birthday is on the 8th). I’ve booked the B&B, & he’s planning outings/meals, etc. I don’t know a lot about what he has up his sleeve but I do know there will be wineries involved. Wineries FTW!
  • I gave my birthday wishlist to my mom (yes, I’m still doing that, because I’m 5 years old – in my defense, she asked for one, and I didn’t write it in crayon, I emailed it). She said, “I don’t know what half of this stuff is.” She calls me her Yuppie Daughter. I’m not really sure if I’m a yuppie* but I am a nerd. Is that the same thing? I guess only a nerd would ask for a larger SD card as a birthday gift.

And now, The Most Awkward Thing You’ve Ever Seen In Your Life.

[vimeo http://vimeo.com/9749036]

*I just googled “yuppie,” and every definition I’ve seen defines it as something like: “a well-paid young middle-class professional who works in a city job and has a luxurious lifestyle.” Uh, I wouldn’t call my lifestyle luxurious, Mom. Maybe she means I’m a hipster? Indie? A creative spirit? WHAT AM I. Please solve for me & leave your answer in the comments. I won’t be able to sleep until you do.

LOL thank you for sharing! I haven’t seen you v-log before (and thank you for saying it “V-log” and not “VLOG” lol and you’re SO lovely!

Also -happy birthday in advance! And don’t worry, my dad still asks for wishlists too :) Congrats on the good news for Michael!

  2. Molly says:

I have never thought so much about car dancing in my entire life. That was awesome.

  3. Nora says:

You might be moving!? Does that mean if I come to Houston I can’t meet you!!??? Although I am insanely excited for Michael because that is a super big deal =)

I had no idea it was your birthday soon. I must come up with something crazy to send you….

    Happy Friday!

Ok. This was very delightful. Painfully awkward, but delightful nonetheless.

  5. RootsAndRings says:

Why do you post vlogs when I don’t have sound on my work computer?? That’s just mean.

  6. RootsAndRings says:

I just watched it without sound. That was fun!

  7. DebbieQ says:

#1 – Very funny Vlog. Good thing you didn’t define “old” cuz, you are just a pipsqueak in the age department.

#2 – I turn……50 in 3 weeks. And I wouldn’t go back to 24 even if you paid me geegobs of money. 50 or almost that is an excellent time of life.

#3 – if the grad school is anywhere in the North we are going to have to teach you to drive in the snow.

#4 – I know what you mean about selling the house nervousness. We sign papers tonight to put our house on the market. I hate selling a house, it is a royal pain in the patookus.

  8. Samantha says:

Congrats to Michael, and I hope that he hears many, many more yes’s! I’m curious to hear where you two will be moving. But in the meantime, enjoy your birthday week!

Ahh, and thank you so much for a good little laugh about car dancing!

  9. Sarah says:

If old people awkward car-dancing is wrong, I don’t wanna be right.

  10. Tabaitha says:

Oh my gosh, I could only imagine how hilarious it was to see that old guy car dancing. Congrat Michael and good luck with selling your house.

  11. rachieannie says:

I love catching people car dancing. Totally makes my day. It also makes me feel not so awkward about what I do.

And I love that Chelsea watched it without sound. Classic!

  12. abby says:

What will you do if grad school takes you out of Texas?? Will you be Lauren from Arkensas or Lauren from New Jersey? So many decisions! :) Good job to your hubby for getting accepted! My hubby just started grad school part time this semester…and can I say I don’t have one ounce of me that wants to go? I’m so past the homework and tests and papers!

If he gets accepted to University of Kentucky (if he were to have applied there) that would be way fun! That’s where my hubby works!! :)

  13. Stephany says:

So happy for your husband, that’s great news!

And I agree that you had to do a vlog for it, because those moves are not something that can be described…they must be shown. Haha! Great stuff!

  14. HoustonGurly says:

Boooo! I can’t see Vimeo from work… only YouTube. I’ll have to check out your vlog when I get home, Yuppie! HAHAHAHA! That made me giggle.

  15. Cio says:

I’m sorry I didn’t get past the part were you nonchalantly mentioned that you would be moving.
I’m dying. Excuse me while I go cry in a corner.
    cioriously.

  16. Kathleen says:

I told David that he’d better finish my blog before he starts yours! But really, I’m excited to see what y’all come up with. :)

  17. Clare says:

Congrats to your husband on getting into grad school! And good luck with the whole house selling thing.

Loved the vlog – hilarious! Catching other people car dancing is awesome, being caught car dancing, not so much.

One time I was rocking out to Justin Timberlake on the radio and I glaned in my mirror and the girl behind me was singing along to the same song – I could see her mouth saying the words. It was a really weird moment, not that it’s weird for a girl a similar age to be listening to the same radio station as me, but it definitely burst my “I’m in my own little world in my car” bubble!

  18. E.P. says:

Congrats to your hubby on being accepted to grad school! That was HUGE for us when my fiance was accepted to law school, then he had to make the choice where. And now, we’re getting to the point where we have to figure out where we are going after he finishes.

It’s all exciting, though. Where do you think you’re going to go now?!

  19. Jill says:

Tell Michael congrats from all your bloggies about graduate school! Getting accepted was definitely one of the more exciting times in my life! I’m totally a car dancer…I just hope you never see me and make a funny vlog about me ;) (ps, I always thought it was “vlog” like “blog” but you said v-log. How did you know it was one or the other?)

  20. Kyla Roma says:

Your little comments “it’s from Ikea!” and “This is a prop” are too cute!

Congrats on everything, grad school! Selling! And car dancing lol Is the school local?? So many questions…

  21. Karen says:

The video isn’t loading for me right now and somehow I think I’m missing out. Congrats to Michael on getting into grad school!

  22. PrettyandWitty says:

LOVED this post! Your V-log was awesome, the husband gave me the side eye once or twice from my fits of giggles.

I hate to admit I don’t car dance, but boy, I sure car sing! I have an amazing (terrible) voice and it’s glorious, especially when the husband is there to witness and be super embarrassed!

  23. exgf2009 says:

I totally car dance! congrats on the acceptance to grad school! (no so fun about moving) AND who doesn’t still do birthday lists….I still provide my mom with bday lists as well as my santa wish list as Christmas! If you don’t believe you don’t receive!

  24. Victoria says:

lol I LOVE watching people car dance! I was out getting lunch one day and I didn’t have my radio on as I sat at the light, and suddenly I heard some REALLY loud rock music and this older truck pulls up, windows up and he is TOTALLY car dancing!!! He was rocking out and screaming the lyrics and totally doing air-guitaring it up!!! totally hilarious!
