And then, we ate.

There is never enough time in a weekend.

Friday night, Michael & I met up with Erin (Mama Gooch)’s parents, my mom, & our friend Jess to celebrate Jess’ birthday in the only way we know how: EAT. Buttery shrimp & beef fajitas, chips & salsa, a skillet brownie & ice cream, & Starbucks. FOOD COMA.

The Birthday Girl!

Reen’s mom, Kimby. She’s mah fave!

A lovely group of peoples.

Saturday morning I tried to be productive by cleaning both of my bathrooms. I had intended to clean the bathrooms, dust, & do laundry, but when you’re a perfectionist you’re all “I think I’ll Windex the mirror” and before you know it, you’re on your HANDS AND KNEES scrubbing grout with YOUR TOOTHBRUSH. For several hours. Then I went to lunch with my mom & sister Katherine at Panera, & we did a little shopping. Then dessert & coffee at La Madeline and oh my goodness do I ever stop eating?

We’re twins.

Love her.

“I haven’t been hungry since Thursday.” -Katherine

And then she talked me into buying these earrings, & I’m glad she did.

Saturday evening we went to dinner with Kathleen (Kapachino), Chelsea (Roots & Rings), & their respective husbands.

Blog friends!

At the suggestion of Katharine Shilcutt (she eats.), we went to Barnaby’s (original Fairview location), & it was superb. We had waffle fries with blue cheese fondue, I had an amazing guacamole burger, & we indulged in baby brownies with Mexican vanilla ice cream.

Kathleen & David had to leave after dinner, but Stephen, Chelsea, Michael, & I couldn’t stop talking (a common problem when the 4 of us get together), so we continued the evening nearby at a place called Ernie’s (nothing special, but it was cheap, and we love cheap).

Today I finished cleaning my house (i.e. scrubbed the baseboards with a toothbrush BECAUSE THEY NEEDED IT OKAY?!) & went grocery shopping. I made a pot of jambalaya & had a nice big bowl. I’m hammering out some emails, sipping on thick chocolate milk, and blogging. I’m perfectly content, snuggled up with Pancho, until I think about the fact that tomorrow is Monday, & I have FIVE DAYS of work ahead of me. Le sigh.

Tomorrow morning, my sister will text me bright & early & we will go for a run. I will huff & puff & regret every calorie I ingested this weekend, but not enough to change my ways next weekend. Tuesday will bring a new episode of Biggest Loser. I will have meetings & appointments & not get enough sleep. But this week will not be an ordinary week because this is the week CORLENE IS FINALLY MOVING TO TEXAS. She is leaving Alberta on Tuesday (fingers crossed) and thinks she should be here by Thursday (she & her dad are driving down). I’m so excited I can hardly contain myself. This weekend will be so fun with her around, plus I get to see Chelsea again. At least I have a lot to look foward to as the next 5 days crawl by.

I hope y’all had a wonderful, blissful weekend & either relaxed your butts off or got everything on your to-do list accomplished. Or both. And I hope you ate delicious food and now have a nice tummy pooch, and I also hope that you email me & tell me about it, so I won’t feel as guilty over my weekend gluttony.

Here’s to a great week.

  1. From Kyla Roma:

Well that sounds pretty perfect! I wish I had more blog friends locally, you guys are crazy lucky. Glad you had a great, social time!

  2. From Sarah:

We have a Barnaby’s across the street from us. I’m always making excuses to go there.

    Great. Now I’m hungry.

  3. From rachel:

could you BE more adorable? for real.

i’m so sad that i don’t live somewhere i can hang out with all of my blog friends. so jealous, it looks like a great time! :)

  4. From RootsAndRings:

The picture of you, Kathleen, and I is bad. I look terrible. The picture of Stephen and Michael is REALLY bad. His eyes are half closed and he looks drunk.

All I did this weekend was eat and sleep. I’m not exaggerating.

  5. From sammylee253:

Looks like such an enjoyable weekend! I love your new earrings. :)

  6. From Tabaitha:

Love the new earrings! A weekend centered around food and friends sounds perfect to me. Oh, and if you go to Barnaby’s again, you must try their Cobb Salad. It’s to die for!

  7. From Jill:

I definitely need to have more fun in my life. Oh wait…I have homework. Hurry up and get here, May!!!

  8. From heirtoblair:

Proof that we are long-lost sisters: I, too, have a toothbrush dedicated to baseboards.

I also use q-tips when cleaning the hinges on the toilet.

  9. From Cio:

    your mom looks like PW

  10. From Katherine:

Haha you quoted me. :p I want that burger!!!

  11. From Lindsay:

I ate so much this weekend, too! It was my mom’s birthday and we had three birthday dinners. I’m still stuffed.

  12. From jenferlouise:

That guacamole burger is starving me to death. …. And I just ate.

  13. From Lauren Begin:

Lauren, the tummy pooch only gets worse after you have a baby. Now every time I eat too much than I should (which is quite often) I look like I’m 2 months pregnant again! :(

  14. From mrssjohnson:

    What a fun weekend…
I wish we lived by Chelsea and Stephen so we could all hang out. If we’re friends with them and you’re friends with them, doesn’t that make us friends…I think my math is correct.

  15. From Suburban Sweetheart:

    A) I want those earrings.
    B) I want those French fries.
    C) I want your life.

OK, that last one was creepy & not entirely true – I like mine a lot! – but, you know, it fit the theme. And this post sure is full of cute stuff & tasty food.

  16. From Sara:

I can’t say enough how jealous I am that you’re eating such deliciousness, especially in Texas. It hasn’t been a full month since I was in Houston last and I miss the food there already.

Guacamole = <3. I made guacamole dip at least 4 or 5 times in the past couple weeks. At least it's healthier than french dip. :)

  17. From Kim Pennell:

Blog friends! Are those real friends? I think not. Friends that move from MO to FL to be closer to TX..and actually come and stay at your parents house and visit you at your house (out of breath..hold on) THOSE ARE FRIENDS.
Chips. Salsa. Shrimp. Tortillas. pico di gallo.
Man it’s fun being with you guys! I’m so glad you and your mom hung out – made me want to kidnap my girls and take them out too. (those babies keep them from going far)
If I could just brainwash you by getting you to come stay with me and learn my cleaning skills, you would have no guilt not using a toothbrush to clean. (i had one in MO -and used it about 5 times in 16 years)
Here’s to good friends, food and fun times!

  18. From slamdunk:

I have not had a guacamole burger in too long. Nice photos.
