Welcome to my first post of the new year. Also the new decade. Also the new month. Also the new… OK I’ll stop now.
It’s been almost 2 weeks since I last posted. Sorry I didn’t warn y’all about my blog vacation beforehand; I know many of you were panicked and worried. And by panicked and worried I mean not worried at all and probably stuffing your faces with holiday food and tearing open presents. I just got back from vacation in Florida (if you follow me on Twitter, you already know this). I had intended to take a blogcation (is that an acceptable word?), but I wasn’t sure how long it would be so I thought it would be easiest to surprise everyone, including myself. SURPRISE LAUREN! You surprised everyone, even yourself, with how truly lazy and out of touch you can be when you so choose! Happy New Year!
All of that being said, it’s so good to be home. I’ll be blogging about our trip over the next couple of weeks, little by little. It needs to be broken down, since the following momentous occasions occurred:
- Michael & Lauren took a trip and there were no hospitals, operations, illnesses, or cold showers involved. And there was much rejoicing.
- I met my faux nephew, William Marshall! And saw his mommy for the first time since her wedding (3.5 years ago). We toasted with champagne. It was wonderful.
- My mom & dad celebrated 25 years of marriage with a vow renewal ceremony on the beach of a small island. It was fabulous. I got a little weepy.
- We went deep-sea fishing and I caught a Jewfish! OK, so my uncle caught it, and my dad and husband were making sure I didn’t fall overboard, and my uncle held the pole, but I got to crank the reel once or twice! It was amazing and my sister took pictures and a video. All will be posted.
I am excited about the New Year. I always love the idea of a fresh start. This year is not without resolutions, and I will be posting my very own “101 in 1001,” except I renamed mine “95 in 1095,” because 1095 is 3 years exactly, and I am nothing if not precise annoyingly OCD. I’m almost to #70 – when I finish, I’ll post a page so y’all can follow my progress. Also to make sure I complete the list. Don’t let me be a slacker!
While my 95 things can be measured and crossed off a list once and for all, I have composed a list of other things I hope to accomplish in 2009, but will constantly be a work in progress:
- Continue the work I have begun – knowing when & when not to take responsibility; living in the present instead of the past (or future); knowing that I cannot control situations/people, but making the choice to control my actions & reactions to them; forgiving quickly; loving unconditionally.
- Continue running with my sister (we’ve both been slacking off), to train for a race or two in the coming year.
- Organize/prioritize my RSS feeds – there are so many wonderful bloggers and I want to read & comment on everything, but I’m only human. If I come up with some sort of system, we’ll all be happy.
I am constantly inspired by so many of you. I got one of the greatest emails of my life from a reader in Portugal named Clara, and she told me that “[t]his year I decided to let people know appreciate them.” I can’t tell you how much her email meant to me, or how much the comments/notes/tweets I receive from y’all on a regular basis help make my little world a better place. In honor of Clara, and all of you, I want you to know how much I appreciate you, and I look forward to opportunities to show that in 2010.
Happy New Year!
