Snow & other magical things.

If you follow me on Twitter (which, if you don’t, is only acceptable if you’re part of the 1% of the population who doesn’t have a Twitter account, I’M LOOKING AT YOU CHELSEA), you’ll know that:

1. IT SNOWED. On Friday. IN TEXAS. I understand that for some of you, that’s no big deal. But in Texas, the land of perpetual heat and humidity, snow is rare and magical. We celebrate it. It comes in light, enchanting, beautiful flurries, doesn’t stick to the ground, and leaves before we have a chance to get tired of it. Probably the best thing I read regarding the snow was this blog post by my new friend Abby. Short story: I found Abby through your wishcake, who I found through Kyla, who I found through 20 Something Bloggers. Turns out, Abby and I went to the same college, were both English majors, and think we even had a class or two together. Small world or what? Anyway, here’s her post: Snow Day.

2. I met The Pioneer Woman on Saturday! It was quite exciting and I’ll be blogging about it soon (I took lots of pictures!).

Thanks to everyone for the comments/notes following my last post. I’m doing much better. I’m learning to ask myself “Whose problem is it?” regarding the things I emotionally take on that are out of my control. It doesn’t make the problem go away, but it lessens my self-inflicted burden of responsibility and guilt. I guess these things just take time. Anyway, thanks. Your feedback and support means the world to me. I wish I could hug all of you.

And now, it’s vlog time! During the short time that it was snowing, I managed to take a couple of videos. I present them now for your viewing enjoyment. Does this mean I’m a vlogger? It’s all so new and confusing.

Happy December!

Comments on Snow & other magical things.

  1. From Suburban Sweetheart:

I LOVE SNOW! It snowed a little bit here (DC), which almost never happens, but not enough for the Ohioan in my to be truly happy.

  2. From legalstyle:

we’re supposedly getting snow in the bay area tonight, too! it’s unbelievable!

    omg global warming, right?

  3. From Kyla Roma:

You are SO cute, it just hurts! It must be such a strange thing to see for you guys! Kind of like beaches at Christmas for me lol

Stay warm, I hope your Monday goes well & if you do need that stiff drink you tweeted about I promise not to judge. =)

  4. From anh:

  5. From Darla Baerg:

HI Lauren!!! Fun to meet you Saturday!!

I read on Chelsea’s blog that PW re-tweeted you … I need details … since you and I both know that Chelsea doesn’t do twitter so may not fully know or be able to relay the details!!

I’m thinking that must mean that PW follows you? YOU GO GIRL.

Let me know when to come to your book signing. :)

  6. From Chelsea Hurst:

    I love Leia.

    That is all.

  7. From HoustonGurly:

Okay, I tried to play the videos, but I gots nothin! I don’t know what the deal is. :(

  8. From Nora:

How cute are you and the dog? I love your backyard and the fact that it’s GREEN and SNOWING. We had snow flurries last night but we have stupid naked trees and brown leaves here and there so it’s not as pretty.

I think I need to come visit you.

And stiff drink + snuggie? I couldn’t agree more. Mondays are craptastic which is why I’m reading your blog instead of dealing with the mountain of work on my desk/to-do list.

  9. From Meg:

We have snow here today as well! Although in Indiana, it’s actually a bit strange that this is the first time we’ve really had snow this winter.

Love your vlogs! You seem a tiny bit nerdy, and that makes me smile.

  10. From jenferlouise:

I’m glad you talk silly to your dogs, too. My family makes fun of me for this. But my pups are my babies … so I will baby them. :)

  11. From Erin:

    A) I follow you on Twitter. Shut up about it.
    B) I want snow.
    3) I WILL SEE YOU IN 19 DAYSSZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.

  12. From Amanda:

Can I just say, that as a Texan, born and raised- I am extremely upset with the state of TX…

I’ve lived there my entire life until recently when my husband and I moved to Peru and wouldn’t you know 2 DAYS after I left…it snowed. I mean, REALLY?! 2 DAYS!

I shed a tear…If Texas and I weren’t so close…I would have to reconsider ever coming back. But I can’t stay away too long. It’s just a part of me. :)

  13. From Erin:

Awww, how fun! I love snow…well, I love it until right after Christmas, and then I’m sick of it. I especially hate it in March.

  14. From Sturgmom:

We got some GREAT flurries, but nothing stuck. Wah!

  15. From Kathleen:

I have to meet your puppies!

  16. From Stephany:

Hopping over from Chelsea’s blog (finally) and I’m a Florida girl who’s seen snow ONCE…and I was 12 at the time. So, yes, it’s been quite a while the last time I saw snow. And it’s been 22 years since it’s snowed where I live. I’m not holding my breath.

And I totally love the way you talk to your dogs, because I talk the same way to my dog. The videos are adorable!

  17. From Cio:

I love Pancho. True Mexican. No likey da snow. It would mess up his hairz.

  18. From Jill:

I’m happy to know I’m not the only person with a talking dog(s) ;) It makes me feel much more secure in my sanity. I had some snow over the weekend too, and was very excited! though disappointed that by the time I woke up, most of it was gone…guess that is what I get for being lazy@!

  19. From Bethany:

Enjoy it! My brother was driving from Washington state to Ohio (or attempting to!) and was going the southern route through Arizona, trying to catch a plane to New Jersey for my grandpa’s funeral and got caught in the ice storm. He sat on the highway for 7-8 hours not moving at all because the road was officially “closed”. I haven’t really seen much snow myself– it’ll come, I’m sure.
