Lesson learned, or not.

Hello my name is Lauren, and I am a procrastinator.

As I have mentioned before, one of my dearest friends, Erin, is pregnant. Very, very pregnant. And it’s not like I just found this out either. I was one of the first people she told, in the form of a “Skyped” picture of a freshly peed-upon pregnancy test. So yeah, I’ve been along for the ride. I’ve had 9 months to think about an amazing baby gift. I’ve had tons of great ideas. I just… never got around to actually buying one. Until last week. She began to send me various texts using words like “dilated” and  ”contractions” and such. I panicked, got on Etsy, and chose one of the several handmade diaper bags I had been trying to decide between. So, diaper bag purchased, and she was still a little over a week from her due date. I have been checking with her every single day… “Has the diaper bag come yet??” No, not yet, but we have plenty of time, right? I wasn’t worried.

Until yesterday, when I got this email:

Hi Lauren,

Thanks thanks thanks….. for your purchase

The following package was shipped to you via the Malaysia Postal Service(register mail):

Shipment Date………..11/06/2009

*approx shipping time 10-21 days.
(Please track after 1 week, when received this e-mail,if you want to know about the shipping status, because the package from my country to your local post office, they need bout 1 week to update the status)

Please convo me if you have any issues with you order or if your order is late arrival to you!I can’t do much about tardy delivery, but I can do my best to hunt down your package and find out all I can about it is where abouts!

Um, excuse me? MALAYSIA? WHAT?!

So yeah, looks like baby Will might be about eight years old before the diaper bag arrives. Especially since last night, we had quite the scare. I’ll let her tell you more about it, via her blog.

Lessons Learned:

-Don’t wait until the last minute to buy a baby gift. There is an expiration date, and it’s not set in stone!

-Before you buy from Etsy, look to see if your purchase is SHIPPING FROM MALAYSIA, especially if you need it to arrive by a certain time.

I tell you these things because I care. Also, because I am a moron. DON’T MAKE THE SAME MISTAKES I DID.

Oh well. Erin & Will are going to have a really cute, handmade diaper bag.

dude. I’m TOTALLY in the same boat right now.
I have a really good friend who’s fixing to pop at
any moment and I have yet to purchase the gift I was
going to get her from Etsy. I need to do that ASAP.
    thanks for the reminder!

    A) Ok, even if he is 8 when it arrives, I will ADORE it.
    B) Does this mean I have to write a blog about last night? Sigh.

That’s really weird about the Malaysian Post, because I’m from Malaysia and I send packages to my family in the states like all the time, and it never takes 10-21 days. I’m guessing that the etsy seller skimped on express or registered post… just saying, maybe?

I mean, if it took 10-21 days then I would’ve shamefully missed all my cousins and grandparent’s birthdays and Christmas presents, because I’m a horrid procrastinator too.

I hope it gets there soon! I’m so sorry that it happened too! (As a Malaysian, I don’t know why but I feel compelled to apologise even though I have nothing to do with our postal service system)

Nevertheless, I left home like 7 years ago (and I’m gearing to go back in a couple of months) I’m prepping myself for a few setbacks and one major one would be the inefficiency of the postal service at home, and probably the banks too. So, maybe that 10-21 days wait makes sense.

Cute diaper bag! Completely random, but how did the Ladies night out with the Houston bloggers go? Any pics?

    That’s an adorable diaper bag!

10-21 days? wow, that is indeed a long time! My friend was in Italy over the Summer and it took about the same time plus $100 to ship a small box to him. Crazy!

This JUST HAPPENED TO ME! I ordered a beautiful necklace only to realize that the seller is in ISRAEL!!! They have a good seller rating so my fingers are crossed, but yes. Lesson learned. Sheesh.

I’m sure she’ll love the diaper bag and I’m sure it will arrive in a fair amount of time. It’s the thought that counts if nothing else =)

Ah ha ha. It’s the thought that counts lady. This totally happened to me with Australia!
