Sorry I haven’t updated for a few days. I’ve been busy sleeping, being miserable, watching hours of Arrested Development and How I Met Your Mother, drinking Slim-Fast, and putting ice packs on my swollen face. I can’t say I’ve minded the guilt-free excessive television watching and ice cream eating, but otherwise, this whole wisdom teeth thing has really sucked. I’ve been in a lot of pain, and pretty out of it. I was hoping to have lots of time to catch up on blogging and reading/commenting, but it turns out Lauren On Vicodin is a lot less motivated than Lauren Not On Vicodin.
I have so much to do and so much I want to catch up on, but the throbbing pain in my gums is preventing me from focusing on anything besides the fact that I have craters in my mouth, and that kind of freaks me out. The Vicodin has been making me really nauseous, so basically I have a choice: take half a dose and stay in partial pain, or take a whole dose, feel like I am going to puke my guts out, and then pass out for a few hours, only to wake up in pain again.
I know I am being dramatic, but please understand – I’ve been horizontal on my couch for the last three days, I’ve forgotten what it’s like to wear a bra or deodorant, and every time I stand up, I feel like I am going to pass out. I am getting tired of eating yogurt and chicken broth and for whatever reason, my television deems it necessary to play food commercials when I am either most hungry or most nauseous.
Throughout all of this, my husband has been a saint. He has taken such good care of me, staring with Friday morning, when he took me in to have the surgery, and waited patiently to take me home. As I was sitting in the recovery room, I remember him saying, “You know what we should have done? Asked them if we could keep the teeth!” He also took a few pictures of me in my most swollen state, but I think we’ll save those for another time. Like, never. Also, my sister came over on Friday and made me mashed potatoes, brought some movies, snuggled my dogs, and cooked dinner for my husband. I feel bad for anyone who has to go through something like this and doesn’t have such great people to take care of them. If you ask really nicely, I will let you borrow them. Maybe.
Sorry this post kind of sucked. Hopefully I’ll be back to regular posting in a day or so.
ATTENTION HOUSTON BLOGGERS: The Houston Blogger Meet-Up has been officially scheduled for October 30th. Mark your calendars! The venue is still up in the air (we’re currently considering a few options and are still taking ideas). We’re looking for somewhere fun & casual, where people can come in costume (or not), and we can have dinner, drinks, and a lot of laughs. Leave ideas/suggestions here or email me: laurenfromtexas (at) gmail (dot) com. It’s going to be fun to finally meet all of you!

Comments on An Update On My Pathetic Situation.
From Tabaitha:
Hope you feel better soon.

It turns out you can extract stem cells from your wisdom teeth to regrow new teeth if you ever need them.
From Stephanie:
Mesenchymal Stem Cells. We are actually going to bank my daughters in hopes that it will help with the effects of her cerebral palsy. These stem cells can be harvested from any baby teeth and cost less to bank than umbilical cord blood. last I heard there were no studies that were being conducted, but the research is promising!
From Kitty:
Awww… Feel better soon hun. Go for mash potatoes – way more filling then chicken broth. Also, do you happe to have a Pampered chef chopper? I love that thing! You cna mash anything into a pre-chewed condition. See if you can get your sister to make you some chicken and rice, and then have her mash it into ridiculously tiny pieces with the chopper. It works really well, and you’ll get so much more energy from it.
Much Love!
From Erin:
;o( Reading this gave me flashbacks. It is such a sucky situation.
From Chelsea Hurst:
I’m sorry. I remember the pain. It was so so so bad. I got mine out about 6 days before Thanksgiving. Bad idea.
I’m having my people get with some other people about a possibility for Oct 30.
From Kari Anne:
Hey Lauren. So sorry you are in so much pain! It does suck…that’s for sure! I hope you feel better soon!
My daughter’s Halloween party is on the 30th, but hopefully after all the grub-snatchers go home, I’ll be able to slip out and we can finally meet!
To The Hubby – thanks for keeping our girl as comfortable as possible!! You are great for helping her the way you do!!
From Cheyenne:
I remember that pain. I am allergic to Vicodin and every other heavy pain killer out there so I just had to be in pain all the time. I REMEMBER THE PAIN.
I hope you feel better soon!
From mbowman7:
Sorry to hear about your pain. Hopefully it doesn’t last much longer.
I can’t wait till the 30th I’ll try to think of a few places and shoot you an e-mail.
From Meghan:
Goodness! I am so sorry and I hope you get better REALLY fast. I had mine done a few days before Christmas a few years ago AND they didn’t give me enough anesthesia to keep me fully asleep during the procedure. It was a pretty cool experience, watching them do the work, until I started hearing and feeling EVERYTHING. Thankfully, they quickly put me back to sleep.
Again, feel better! Or else!
From smile steady:
And this is why people hate me. I really need a new profession!
Seriously though, I hope you get to feeling better. And I am super jealous that I’m not living in Houston. You girls are going to have a blast!
From Stephanie:
Oh…I feel bad for you right now! That pain was seriously worse than c-sections! My top two came out fine, then the third….then for the love of Christmas and small puppies the anesthesia wore off toward the end of the fourth. Coincidentally that happened to be one of the teeth they had to break into pieces and remove in sections! I ended up getting dry sockets in the bottom two, that they stuffed with some kind of gauze that tasted like cloves E-V-E-R-Y time I swallowed! Blah! And please…whatever you do, if you have holes where the teeth were DO NOT EAT RICE! I made that mistake and a grain of rice actually got trapped in the hole. I had to enlist the help of my husband to use a syringe filled with warm water and irrigate the hole at just the right angle to force the rice out of the hole! MISERY!!! Good thing is…if you can have your wisdom teeth pulled and survive…childbirth will be a breeze!
PS-I’d love to meet up with other bloggers! I actually only know a handful of people who blog! I did not realize how much I would enjoy blogging!
From Meg:
I hope you feel better soon! I hatged getting my wisdom teeth out. I got dry socket and was miserable for weeks. I can definitely understand not leaving the couch.
From Jill:
I experienced the same thing with the pain meds making me sick to my stomach. Hope you feel better soon!!
From Joe:
I think the “In sickness and in health” vow is an underrated one. Not only does it show what a great spouse you have (clearly you do), but it can also suck if you don’t have a spouse when you’re sick and wish that you had. My wife was my girlfriend at the time, and she really showed me how much she cared for me when I had my wisdom teeth out.
Either that, or she knew she had to have hers out later, so she wanted to set the bar high.
From mandy:
I hope you feel better soon!
From sarah:
i remember having my wisdoms out
geez it sucked. but i had to have them out because they kept making my jaw dislocate which sucked even more
so lauren without wisdoms is better than lauren with wisdoms! yay
From bblissful:
Oh, babydoll, I had no idea you were in for this … pure yuck! I won’t regale you with the “I remember when” version … but I *think* things were pretty steady afterward … drug haze and all. My son is having his removed in a couple weeks, then hopping a plane for Europe 2 wks. later (fingers crossed!)
I can’t go near pain killers without taking 1/2 tablet of Gravol — just enough to knock out the nausea but not put me into a sleep coma. Would the equivalent be Dramamine (or something like it) in the US? ACK! I’m mummy-ing you … :)
Feel better soon! Your hubby’s brilliant. xx
From Cheyenne:
By the way, I gave you an award over on my book blog if you’re interested. It’s http://www.busybookwormreviews.com. Hope you’re feeling better!
From steph anne:
Your husband is a wonderful man for taking care of you!! I’ve had my days where I needed my husband there for me and to feel sorry for me and feed me, haha. They’re amazing for putting up with us! I hope you feel better soon!!
From Kyla Roma:
Oh lady!! They gave me Tylenol 3′s with codine in them so I was just sleepy, but no nausea- I would totally have mailed your tylenol with codine had I known you guys didn’t have them! </3
Feel better, lady!
From Sturgmom:
{{{HUGS}}} Sorry you feel worse than crap. I hope things start to look up soon.
In other news, I was thinking about having my bottom wisdom teeth out b/c they are starting to crowd my botom teeth. I only had the top 2 pulled waaaaaay back in high school. But your situation gives me pause…
From Nora:
Ugh, the damn wisdom teeth surgery I endured earlier this year was totally awful. I drank so much slimfast it was insane! The only other thing I really enjoyed was chocolate shakes. And the pain killers? Don’t even get me started; they make you completely useless don’t they? I hope you are feeling MUCH better but hang in there. It will get better and before long you’ll feel good as new =) xoxox
From Joseph:
Hi Lauren!
I hope you get better. I’m glad to find out that you are an arrested development fan :) Who is your favorite?
From katyhelena:
You poor girl! I’m going to be experiencing this soon enough myself. :( Hope you’re feeling better!
