Happy Thursday Night.

Is it Friday yet?

Close enough.

Call me crazy (wouldn’t be the first time!), but I honestly think I am suffering from sympathy pregnancy symptoms. One of my best friends, Erin, is pregnant. (No, you’re not hallucinating, I have mentioned her before.) I am obsessed with her blog, follow her on Twitter, am friends with her on Facebook, chat with her on Skype, and we also text each other periodically throughout the day. That’s right, folks, I have a front row seat to all weight gain, cravings, swelling, WEIRD EXCRETIONS (too much?), and the general rigmarole of her pregnancy.

The weird thing is, as I read her blog, I crave the things she’s craving. When she says her ankles are swollen, my ankles suddenly feel twice their normal size. When she texts me and says she’s having a McChicken sandwich, I CANNOT REST UNTIL I EAT A MCCHICKEN SANDWICH.

Call it being a good friend, call it weird, call it creepy, whatever. I do know that I am NOT pregnant (am currently ON the THING that PROVES you’re not pregnant, CATCH MY DRIFT?) but whenever I talk to her, I FEEL this phantom pregnancy. Erin and I have always said that we were the same person, just living in different states, so maybe this is one of those deep-friend-connection things. Or, maybe I’m just looking for an excuse for the extra 5 pounds I’ve been toting around lately. You be the judge.

Just for kicks, here is a picture from one time when the two of us decided to go to the Bahamas together.

Reen & Laurie

Then I took the last Coca-Cola on the Island and she was kind of wistful about it.

And then one time she got married and I decided to show up for the soiree.

Reen & Laurie

So, to sum things up: Erin and I have been friends for about a thousand years, even back when I liked to overpluck my eyebrows and wear oversized baggy clothes because I thought it made me look thinner (HINT: IT DOESN’T). Also, we both love Coke and apparently are both suffering from the same afflictions, but only one of us is lugging around a kid in her uterus.

*crickets*

Well, this post is kind of awkward so far.

I know what will make it all better! Cute pictures of my dogs!

snuggle time!

This is me, trying to snuggle both of my dogs at the same time. Pancho is growling. Leia is protesting loudly.

snuggle time!

Pancho is getting more used to the situation. Leia is still protesting.

snuggle time!

She is so over this. Her and her one blue eyeball.

snuggle time!

Also over this, and trying to look pitiful about it.

snuggle time!

And one more, because I am just that mean.

Happy Friday everyone! This weekend we are going to try to NOT end up in the hospital.

I make no promises.

Comments on Happy Thursday Night.

  1. From Erin:

RIGAMAROLE. it has been about 1k years hasn’t it? it’s been wonderful, my dear. although we really need to SEE EACH OTHER AGAIN so we can take some updated pictures. AFTER i lose the baby weight plz. you are a dear friend for your sympathy symptoms and I LOVE YA.
ok i am going back to bed now. this was totally worth it.

  2. From Cio:

you’re so mean to your babies. lolz.
    but I LOVE IT.
I picture little conversations they’re having with you,in these photos.
I’ll tell you about them one day.
    : )
Here’s hoping your weekend is a GREAT one.
    Miss ya friend!

  3. From Angie:

Your friend is lucky to have an empathetic friend such as yourself.

I was going through the same deal with one of my friends, only we were actually both pregnant. Its nice having someone to commiserate with.

  4. From Jay Dee:

Despite the fact that your last addition to the world wide web included a meditation before dying, this one is by far the most personal thing I’ve ever read. Let’s not forget your mention of empathetic bodily excretions nor that it was followed by ANOTHER reference to bodily excretions.

You think you know a person, and then you hear about what was once inside of her before it came spilling out.

  5. From Samantha:

Haha, I love the pictures in which Leia is protesting. :)

    • From Jennifer Locke Whetham:

So glad you are feeling better! And I love the pictures– the old ones AND the ones of you and the sweet puppies. Great captions. My dog definitely does not dig the “Jen Cuddles with Devon” photo ops. So been there!

I too used to over-pluck my eyebrows and wear baggy clothes because I thought they made me look thinner. I look at pics from that time period and I can’t help but wonder WHAT I was thinking.

And when my friends were pregnant, I didn’t have sympathy symptoms, but I did enjoy that their cravings finally matched mine in my non-pregnant state. :)

  6. From Katherine:

Pancho takes much better pictures then Leia.

  7. From Nora:

Love that your dogs names are Pancho and Leia.

Ah, the baggy clothes days. I remember how patient my mom was with me while I went through that phase though I know she secretly hated my baggy grunge clothes.

Happy Friday and good luck avoiding the hospitals =)

  8. From Joe:

I love the third picture from the bottom. I can picture you talking to the dog, and pretending to be all excited when the camera goes off to try to get Leia to smile and be as ethusiastic as you were.

And on the pregnancy note, I think my favorite part of the ordeal will be the cravings. It will be an awesome excuse to drive to all night McDonalds at 3AM. There will be nothing holding me back.

  9. From Sarah:

You could without a doubt be suffering from phantom pregnancy. A girlfriend of mine was preggo last year and I swear my breasts were more tender, I had weird ass food cravings (although I get these all the time anyway), etc.

I was very supportive of the who “with child” thing until she texted me to tell me her nipples were leaking.

  10. From Kyla Roma:

Thanks for the link, I’m definitely subscribing to her blog!

That is the sweetest thing ever, more baby fever is both not at all what I need, and exactly what I need, if that makes sense lol

If you get hospitalized this weekend I’ll be seriously unimpressed, stay safe lady! Maybe sticking entirely to the mc chicken sandwiches isn’t a bad idea after the reaction last weekend!

  11. From Erin:

    hahahahah

“You think you know a person, and then you hear about what was once inside of her before it came spilling out”

I certainly tested the “NO SUCH THING AS TMI” thing that we have going on.

  12. From Kelly:

    You crack me up!

I just got a new camera two days ago… my dog is soooo over me chasing him around snapping photos!

  13. From Kathleen:

    You’re adorable!

  14. From steph anne:

Did you know that you’re beautiful!? Well, you are!

I’m seeing and hearing all about babies everywhere. I think this is what we get at this age. You’d have beautiful children I know that for sure!

  15. From Helene:

You are such a great friend to empathize with her during her pregnancy. All I got from my husband was “aw, come on…it can’t be THAT bad”.

  16. From mandy:

Hope you made it through the weekend and cute puppy pictures make everything less awkward.
