I have an ongoing list of “blog ideas.” That way, when I am sitting at my desk, hard at work, and a great idea for a blog post pops into my head, I have a place to jot it down so I won’t forget. So basically I have a piece of paper with a lot of little topics scribbled on it. None of them are really big enough for a whole post, but none of them really go together either. So I am choosing 3, and creating a conglomeration. It’ll be kind of like those days you go to the fridge and all you have is two bites of spaghetti, half a pork chop, and some canned fruit. You make it work.
First things first: Check out my friend Erin’s new blog. We have been friends for a hundred almost 10 years, and have both seen our share of blogs/social media in general. In fact, she was one of the first people I told about this blog. (I documented the conversation here on my Tumblr – it’s riveting, I know.) I was one of the first people she told about her pregnancy, in the form of a (very blurry) picture of 2 positive pregnancy tests, freshly peed upon. Yeah, we’re that close. She’s honest, hilarious, and one of my favorite people in the whole world. Follow along during the last 10 weeks of her pregnancy – can we say EXCITING?!
Secondly, TGIS – Thank God it’s September. I walked outside this morning and didn’t feel like I was going to die. Not feeling like I am going to die FTW! I don’t have a lot to say about how excited I am for cooler weather that I didn’t cover in my last post, but today I actually felt it. I told Michael the other day, “It’s almost September, I think the worst is over.” And he was all, “No it’s not, we’re going to see way hotter days” etc. etc. etc. While he may be right later this month, I had a contented smirk on my face this morning, because nothing smacks of sweetness quite like BEING RIGHT.
Side note: I went to the grocery store this morning. To quote my tweet, “Going grocery shopping early in the morning is infinitely better than going at night. Significantly fewer angry throngs and unwashed masses.” “Unwashed masses” is, of course, a reference to my infamous Wal-Mart post. Seriously though, if you are an after-work shopper, if at all possible, get up and go before work/whatever you have to do that day. There’s no one there (except old people, who will only get angry if you buy out the bran flakes) and it is so quiet and peaceful it’s almost theraputic. THERAPUTIC, I SAID! Yes, I need to get out more.
Thirdly, I have less than 50 pages left in Julie & Julia. The only reason I am not reading RIGHT NOW is because of my love and dedication to you, my blog readers. I have found that I just can’t leave you for more than 2 days without a fresh post. IF THAT IS NOT LOVE AND DEDICATION I DON’T KNOW WHAT IS. Anyway, I am hoping to finish the book sometime this week. I will then do a book vs. movie review, along with a review of Jillian Michaels’ 30 Day Shred, since everyone and their brother has been asking me about it. It will be a Hodegpode Review post of sorts, if you will.
Side note #2: Listen, I have been nodding off since 8:30, but I have stuck it out. Been catching up on my blog subscriptions and commenting like a madwoman. If the quality of tonight’s blog is subpar, I apologize. I blame the early morning and the busy day. But not the grocery shopping, which was downright therapeutic. Did I mention that?
BONUS: Last but not least, or maybe least, who knows – I bought Pancho a new shirt at Wal-Mart ($3 on the clearance rack, I told you I was a big spender), and I bought Leia a bandana. She actually took to the bandana quite nicely – usually, when I try to dress her up, she crouches down on the floor like I have insulted her deeply. Pancho, however, loves to be dressed up. We think he’s a little sexually confused (we neutered him pretty young), but what are you going to do? Anyway, here they are in all their cuteness:

Yes, they are adorable, and no, you cannot have them.
Well my lovelies, that’s all she wrote (for tonight, at least). Hope everyone is having a great week – hump up tomorrow! I don’t know what that means exactly, but take it in a non-slutty way and try to get a lot of work done in preparation for the 3-Day weekend. Yeah girl!

Comments on Hodgepodge.
From storytimewithnicole:
I WAS JUST THINKING ABOUT GOING TO THE STORE BEFORE WORK.
Done.
From Erin:
a. You watch too much Chopped.
b. I still don’t know what Tumblr is for.
c. Yes, we can say exciting. But “we” are too terrified to be excited right now about TEN MORE WEEKS.
d. I miss fall :o(
e. In Florida, the only way to beat the old Yankee/ unwashed masses crowd is to go as soon as the store opens! It’s amazing, and I love it.
f. youdidnotcommentonmyblog.
g. Dog. Children. I am judging the frik out of you right now. Have some babies already.
ps: When I wrote “G,” I only saw the first picture. Then I scrolled down to the second picture and am LITERALLY SPEECHLESS.
h. Hump up? I wish. :( Ten more weeks.
i. I love it.
From Joe:
I’m wicked glad you’re a consistent blog updater and commenter. We really do appreciate it!
And before I got my own dog, I wasn’t a crazy dog person, but now I am, and I love these pictures. My wife is already planning on buying our dog a winter coat. I am already refusing to put it on him before we go outside.
From Kym:
splurging a little on the $3 don’t you think? hahhaah! jk jk what great finds! <3 it!
From Kristin:
You stink. September is wicked here in F-L-A! ah ha
From Kitty:
I agree, the grocery store can be very therapeutic, I just wear my ipod and drown out the crowds and the kids screaming about what cereal they want. Much Better!
From Sarah:
I’ve never thought about going to the store before work! Normally I’m so busy drowning myself in coffee and packing lunch, etc., but I can see how on a less-busy Friday that would be kind of nice. Packed grocery stores are up there on my least favorite things list…
The first day of Sept. was awesome, was it not?! I hope the weather stays this great all month!!
From Nora:
Your dogs are adorable.
Fall weather is MUCH better than summer weather, hands down.
I LOVED Julie & Julia the movie more than book. I read the book because I have book before movie policy if at all possible and because of that I haven’t seen any Harry Potter movies because I haven’t read any of the books yet.
30 day shred: I love it but Jillian is a bitch to the max. It definitely works if you stick with it!
From Deva84:
Grocery in the morning… yeah pretty better than in the afternoon, coz here we have everything closed in the night and salespeople say to you Good morning and nobody stinks…
September! I thought I’m just one weirdo in this world who’s happy to welcome fall! so glad I found you!
From mandy:
I totally agree with you about shopping in the mornings. It is almost theraputic. High five on that one. My dog wears a bandana all the time. She didn’t have much of a choice. Most of the time she forgets she has it on, but when she wants attention sometimes she somehow gets it off and will carry it around in her mouth as if saying “Take that Bi#$#!”
From Heather:
Lauren – I love reading your blog posts. They make me laugh. I even read the one to Courtney about Michael (b/c I know she NEVER gets on the computer) and we both though it was so sweet. I love your random thoughts, and sense of humor… =)
From Kelly:
I love that you dress your dogs up. No one believes me, but I swear! that my dog loves it. He gets so excited when we pull out one of his tee-shirts to wear.
From osarah:
I look forward to hearing what you have to say about the 30-day Shred. I bought it while we were in the States and fully intended on starting it Spetmbert 1st. Oh, that was yesterday? Darn.
I will start it soon. I hope.
From osarah:
Wow…uh, sorry for my inability to proof read. I know how to spell September.
From Chelsea:
Leia is the only dog I like that has two different colored eyes.
If you think I’m going to grocery shop before work, you are seriously on drugs.
From bblissful:
I LIKE mixed together, Heniz 57 blog posts … now I’ll think of them as “refrigerator posts”! I’m holding out on seeing J&J ’til I’ve read the book — soon, I hope.
From mediumcrazy:
I’m jealous that you have two dogs. I have dreams of dog ownership and I think I my husband accepts that we will have one dog. I don’t see him being enthusiastic about two. I believe I could manipulate him into almost anything, but I try really hard not to take advantage of this.
From Cio:
Aunt Cici thinks her “niece” and “nephew” are so Adorable! : )
From Stephanie:
Two words for Jillian Michaels – HIT IT!!! That woman is a beast! I’ve found myself blogging about her on more than one occasion. I swear she has laser eyes that can see straight through my TV!
And….a few blogs ago you wondered what type of blogger you are? I’ve decided you are a life blogger! Maybe that’s a new category??? Anywho, no more sleepless nights wondering! LOL! You’re welcome!
Oh…and…thanks for making me laugh with this one! I needed it after the week that I just had!
From sarah:
This was funny – I too am addicted to chopped!
From Helene:
I’ve learned to go grocery shopping early on Sunday mornings. Seems wierd, I know. But everyone and their mother is in church at that time so I practically have the store to myself.
And you know, sometimes these hodge-podge type of posts are the most comical!!!
From Sturgmom:
Julie and Julia is on my “to-read” list, which means I’ll get to it sometime in the few weeks I have off in the summer of 2010. Who has time for reading when the new Fall TV Line-up starts soon?
I would love to be an early morning grocery shopper, but I’m also a fan of sleep, so there you have it. Sleep wins every time.
From sarah:
Just found your blog and will be back. (not in an ominous way, just a regular way)
I am curious what you think of Julie & Julia. I haven’t read it, but feel guilty seeing a movie before I read the book and I want to see the movie so I figure I need to do this.
From Liz:
Ok. Pancho’s picture just melted my heart. PRECIOUS.
From Pretty Robotic:
cute pups! omg!
